Hello everyone!

Finally my movie is online! After 5 months of work it's done! Great thanks to Viper over at www.virtualwarcinema.com (http://www.virtualwarcinema.com) for hosting this! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

The movie takes place in the pacific, and we follow the lifes of 2 P-38 pilots. It's a non-historical, but realistic movie. It got some new cool scenes, and all of the sounds are real (like 1000+ added sounds)

Hope you enjoy it!

Very well done. I liked the angles of the shots you used, as well as the human involvement. Many times it's only planes, with no personality. Nothing wrong with that, but its cool to add that human touch, too. You spent a lot of time to get everything right, and it shows. While I think the ending could have been better, the end of a battle or war is never cut and dry, nor pretty, and you showed that, too. The only other thing that could have been done differently, in the beginning scene, the P-38s turned too much. It's not glamourous, but only a few P-38 pilots ever turned with Zeros, and then on a limited basis. Most of the time it was high speed passes, gradual zooming climbs, and reposition. Of course, in the second scene the P-38 had no choice. All in all, a 10 out of 10. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/11.gifExcellent movie. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/11.gif

Very well done my friend. Great action scenes. Great story line whether it is non-historical or not.

The music was great and went together beautifully.

I did indeed notice on the start of the movie when the 2-P-38's flew by...the sounds I was hearing were from a real P-38 fly-by sound track...very nice touch! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

The realism of the cannon fire from both of the P-38's and the Zero's were outstanding..great job guys. I know that takes alot of work and effort to get both the cannon fire and the sound track and sync together...again great job. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

Love the 2 P-38's coming in for a landing together at 2:27 mins into the movie with the music you have selected.

Again the music was beautifully done with the take-offs of the 2 Japanese Zero's...at 3:36.

The attack of the Allied's airfield was also magnificently done! With the fly-over scenes with the mist in the air and the fog.

Nice job at 5:49 when the allied pilot is running to his aircraft and the trucks in front of him gets all shot up and then he is dazed by the attack...but he carries on to his aircraft to get it in the air and fight the attacking zero's....great job!! http://www.dslextreme.com/users/mwss/images/banana.gif

Pawnee...this movie was off the scale!!

nicely done....excellent movie! I had a tear or two in my eyes.

Fabulous! Great work! It truelly can be seen at the details you guys have went into making this feature film, another for my collection set!

Great use of audio effect, great use of action shot sequences and visual effects! You guys made a great story to go with the complete thing and had it by the clock go with the music from Zimmer!
Loved this movie. Keep it up, please share your techniques at VWC!

THE SOUNDS!!! THE SOUNDS!!!!

If only IL-2 could do noises like that in game. Imagine . . . . Imagine THOSE engine sounds. It would be like a non-stop orgasm.

Huxley_S
06-03-2004, 06:43 PM
Definitely the best sounds and sound editing I've heard in a IL2 movie.

I think that the whole "Gladiator" section was a bit unnecessary though. Much as I love that soundtrack, it's a bit too obvious and the action there isn't that great. It would be a better movie if that bit had been cut out IMO.

I think the rest of it is really outstanding though.

Loved the sounds you used ST_Pawnee. I felt like I was watching a "real" movie, but only better. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

We would like to know the source of the sounds--actual a/c? Did you mix left and right channels? Butcherbird17 suggested I use Flight Simulator 2004 to capture some in-game sounds--might be worth a shot.

The action shots were great--too numerous to mention, but one of my favorites is the P-39 pilot running. Sweet.

The color was a bit bright. However, it seemed to work well in this film. Do you think you could have reduced your file size by using the Xvid codec instead of DivX? I also think Xvid has better picture quality IMO.

The one fade to black dissolve lasted very long, I believe about 20 seconds, around 3 minutes into the film?

All in all, this is an outstanding film, great work!

This movie is a truly amazing experience.

But as a piece of directors work; absolutly first class; and with it's inclusion of the human element (especialy the breathless run to the flight line) head and shoulders above anything else.

Thanks a lot for all of your comments! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif
I'm very glad you enjoyed it, and I hope you used speakers+subwoofer(s) if you got it, because that really makes the sound great!

Many of you ask where I got the sounds, and www.sounddogs.com (http://www.sounddogs.com) is the answer. They got a huge range of various sounds! I also got some special sounds, from sites I found by searching on google. A lot of the sounds are mixed, for example the Zero sound. Couldn't find a real sample, so I had to mix several sounds to get it as close as possible.

ShadowSix, yup, I mixed left and right channels. It's very easy to hear if you have surround, or a headset. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif And I used DivX because Xvid codecs are more rare, but I totally agree that Xvid is better, and I kinda regret for not using that.

The long pause was unneccessary as many of you mention. I didn't know what to put in, and I think I thought it could be a "thinking break" lol.

About the colors. Yes, they're lighter than usual. I feel the in-game colors are a bit lazy, so I tried to give 'em some life.

FI-Aflak, agree! hehehe http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

You've managed to tell the entire story without using text to say what was going on. It was obvious that the Japanese planes were out for revenge, and got it!

You get an automatic A+ just for the scene of the pilot running to his plane.
I wish more FB moviemakers would incorporate a more personal touch in their movies. As much as I love watching planes in the air, I don't feel any movie is complete without seeing the pilots. And really, you can always splice in movie scenes of WWII pilots if doing what you need in FB is too difficult.

And of course, the rest of the movie rocked too. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

My favorite detail is when one of the P-38s, parked in the line-up, is being hit from it's 6 high and roles forward a little from the impact force of the enemy bullets. That was cool.

hehe, it was only that the B-17 flying behind the landing P-38's, is the same which lies belly landed on the allied airfield in the early morning. So if you noticed the detail, you could tell it was the allied airfield before the clip of the parked P-38's.

Edit: Just got done watching.. very, very well done! I will echo what others have said that the Gladiator music was a poor choice and the long black-out bit was a little off. But seriously.. very very good. I got chills when he finally got off the runway and was tearing it up. I had hoped for a slightly more dramatic ending though. =/

Two thumbs up!

Um, I may be wrong, but I believe that others have said that it was a good choice. I thought it was perfect for this video, and perfectly coordinated. And I didn't even really like Gladiator all that much.

Ha ha ha, St Pawnee, that detail was nice but it wasn't needed. You put it together just the right way that knowing it was the Allied airfield was a given. The resolution was too low to see that the B17 was on it's belly anyway. I did however think its location was odd before you explained it. I'm using DivX to view it. Is it possible to get a better resolution? Sorry, I know little about this stuff.
Now that you've explained it, it is a cool detail anyway, just couldn't see it as "bellied" on my rig.
BTW, did you ever consider putting various games together? Imagine using Silent Hunter and IL-2 together or other games. That would give you much more choices and opportunities, although you obviously don't need them. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/11.gif

Once again, thx for another great movie. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gifS!

http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gifFrantzen ,thats a brilliant idea, using different games to sew the scenes together to make a film,is it possible,?
You could have the story through the eyes of ground troops, sailors on boats and airmen,.
The story of a bomber crew would,nt need to end when they bailed and the plane crashed, they could be hidden by the resistance, smuggled onto boats, the ideas could be expanded ,WOW http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/11.gif

I just saw your movie, that's a very good job. Plus it must have been a lot of work to build all these cool views you used. How did you make the first person view of the pilot running ?

Congrats and thanks for the good moment http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Thanks Franzen!

Mixing games is a good idea, but it takes some work to make it fit well into a storyline. But it's higly possible and I have considered it.

Maybe in the next movie http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

I thought the music was perfect.

I loved the movie, i always watch it before FB now, it gets me pumped http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif i love some of the takedowns the P38s make, and then one zeke getting hit by flak is awsome.

The sounds were great also. I love them, but now i always feel disappointed when i fly in game http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

After watching it about eight times, I have found a total of one thing that I have a problem with.

The twenty millimeter cannon on the P-38 actually has a lot faster rate of fire than it seems. The sounds you put in match the tracer (that "boom boom boom"), but there are a lot of bullets between the tracers. It's not like the thirty seven millimeter cannon on the P-39.

Another idea I was thinking of St-Pawnee was to insert some old war time political clips into a movie. Something like the leaders from both sides trying to rally their people to war.

I know my ideas involve a lot of planning, work, and know-how but I think you guyz have what it takes. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I don't know much about making the movies but if there's anything I could do to help out just let me know.

Could someone please host this movie somewhere else? I can't find it at VWC, and at NetWings I'm getting speeds of 10-12 kB/sec which makes it a 2:20 download which doesn't seem to shrink.

I'd really like to get the film from somewhere faster/closer. Ya, I'm on cable but I live in Sweden...

Not sure why is coming down so slowly from Netwings for you (or others) http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif There are multiple lines going into the site. Just tried a test download myself from England and its maxing my connection out at 53.9KB/Sec

After watching it for about the eleventh time, I have decided that it is without question the best home made movie that I have ever seen in my life. I wish I could see what you could do with a budget, Pawnee.

What other movies have you done, and where can I find them?

Easily and by far the single greatest movie of this type ever made. You shouldn't even try to top it.

OK, forget I said not to try lol. Do try please! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Someone should make this a sticky. Seriously! It may seem preferential or something, but this is a movie that no one should go without seeing.

I enjoyed Bellum far more than I enjoyed the aerial combat scenes from Pearl Harbor. And those were the only decent part of that movie.

After downloading (for hours) this movie from netwing, I have to say that it is well worth it.

Great action, and it's simply heartbreaking to see that there are two pilots that couldnt make it airborne when the Jap attacked.

It's so good to the point that I almost think im seeing a real war movie.

Anybody ever think of making an IL2 movie competition? Kind of community academy awards or such?

Thanks a million guys! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Aero_Shodanjo, I think there was a contest early in 2003, and many great movies was presented there. I don't know what the timelimit a movie of todays standards should get, since both Bellum, and Last Man Standing by Viper and Shadowsix, took about 5 months to complete. But this depends on the quality you want to excpect; more time --> greater quality http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif Would be fun, though!

BellyMoore, hehe, you're right! lol! I didn't think of that! Thanks for pointing it out. Note taken http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif And thanks for your kind words!

I think the movies will get better and better, and I can't wait to see the movies which will come soon! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

And I seriously think someone should make a list of all movies produced, cathegorised, and linked if possible. Would be an excellent addition to the Virtual War Cinema homepages indeed! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif
