Kozhedub: In combat potential, the Yak-3, La-7 and La-9 fighters were indisputably superior to the Bf-109s and Fw-190s. But, as they say, no matter how good the violin may be, much depends on the violinist. I always felt respect for an enemy pilot whose plane I failed to down.

I have my TIR1 left over after getting a TIR2 for the beta test but I'm not quite sure I want to part with it or not.

Anyway, in total after shipping and money orders and whatnot it came to about $230 Canadian which wasn't easy to convince the better half. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Not sure what they would go for now but make me an offer if you like, I'll even throw in the TrackHat (never used) that came with the TIR2.

XP doesn't recognise the device as "ECT NaturalPont...blah..blah" it just says "USB Device found" and can't locate drivers for it when I ask XP to install them automatically or if I search my system manually!

Install naturalpoint software first. No hooking up TiR untill software is installed.

What BaldieJr said.

If I remember correctly, it's spelt out in BIG LETTERS on a bit of brightly coloured paper inside the packaging. And perhaps again on a bit of red tape attached to the USB cable.

Install the software first before you hook the thing up otherwise it will NOT work.

Try again, good luck as it's sooooo worth it http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I'm considering re-installing XP next and maybe even going back to Win98!!! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

i had the same problem.
if you have intel chipsetdrivers installed, uninstall them first, reboot, install trir software, plug in trir, should work.
did it for me:-)
after that you can reinstall the intel chipsetdrivers.
hope it works for you

Worked fine for me the first time I installed it !! Install the drivers first , THEN plug in USB . Go to Natural Point for the 3.03 driver . I use Hunter's profile but Charlie 777th works good too !!!

Hey Simon! Whatever you do, don't go back to Win98. I have my TIR1 and about 6 other USB devices running under WinXP Pro just fine. It took a bit of tweaking, but I wouldn't go back for anything now that they're working well.

Not sure if you found this post already but it might have some relevance to your situation. You are a brave man to attempt using USB devices with 98 to begin with. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR>FYI:

The TIR2 forum has posted some progress on this issue:

"We have confirmed that if you use Windows Update, and update the USB system, while the TrackIR is plugged in, then it can cause major driver problems. This is a Microsoft problem, and we have documented it happening to many other customers of different products than ours. We do have a proceedure to fix the problem, but it is very detailed and involves editing the registry. You can contact our tech support department for the instructions. support@naturalpoint.com"

My pleasure to have supplied you with an addictive drug http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif Be warned though. As an addictive drug, it is likely to lead to harder things, namely a TrackIR2. I'm very pleased with mine and should add that so far it has worked perfectly.

I was therefore also gutted http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-sad.gif that you had problems with it, but I knew that TrackIR1 (and to some extent TrackIR2) does have some USB recognition problems on some systems. It's clearly a deficit in the TrackIR drivers/software, despite the protests of innocence from the NaturalPoint people on their support forums. Hopefully they will learn a bit more about hardware/software interfacing or hire a more competent programmer who can make new robust drivers. To help this happen, all who have glitches with their TrackIR's and USB, no matter how minor, should pester NaturalPoint on their support forums to pressure them into fixing it properly. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-mad.gif

To those TrackIR virgins out there, take the plunge and either buy a TrackIR2 or take advantage of cheap 'redundant' TrackIR1 units cast off by wealthier people who have updated. The last time I was at RC Simulations in Bristol, Bob told me he had scads of used ones lying around. Make him an offer http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif
