Yay! I just ordered Discovery Wings, along with a million other channels I'll never watch http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Is this channel really all its cracked up to be? I can't wait to watch it. Is a lot of it WWII aviation? What are the best times? Thanks!

For the first month your TV will stay on the wings channel and your lady friend will grow tired of it quickly. After a month or so you will grow tired of seeing the same programs over and over again. Every now and then something new comes on, but they program 4 hours at a time which means every 4 hours you see the same shows over again.
It's great if you are a plane buff though

They have shown some great stuff, I really liked the mini-series they did on the night air wars in WWII. They had interviews with both bomber crew and nightfighter pilots.

But there are a lot of repeats....

Dunno what to tell you...I find the History Channel much more engaging, but then again HC is 'history', and doesn't delve into aircraft that often. I don't get Discovery Wings myself but when I've seen it over at my Brother's apartment it's been the same programs almost ever time I've been over there, and the shows seemed a little dated. On top of that I didn't feel as though their documentaries were up to scratch with those of other channels; alot of dead air and not quite enough content to keep my attention. I do like their episodes that focus on WW2 aircraft though, those shows usually have some interesting footage I haven't seen before.

My family got rid of a gym membership so we could could get digital cable just to have that channel. It rocks, simple as that. Wait for the WIngs of the Red Star episode about the Il-2, and the epsiode of Profiles in Flight about Fokker.

You have a BIG sig. I think there might be some rule about that. Any way, a slight re-size might be nice.

The DWC is awesome! My wife rolls her eyes whenever she see's it on http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif which is ALOT. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/53.gif
It's very comprehensive and gives a very even balenced perspective from all sides of conflicts, aircraft manufactures, aircrew interviews, etc. etc... Just don't try to post what you learn from DWC here. You'll be told over and over again to not believe everything you see on TV. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/51.gif
Their sources come straight from the horse's mouth and they list every one of them in their credits and lists of reference. You'll learn alot of history and facts watching it.

Discovery WIngs has some good shows, but after a year of watching I wonder if they ever have any new programming. I have been watching the same shows (no new content) for a long time now. You get the same stuff repeated many times a day. Gets old fast and frankly the History channel seems to do better with aviation subjects at times.

I can only watch so many runs of the "airport" series.

Yeah don't worry if you can't stay up to watch something because you can wake up the next morning to it. Live some have said its the exact same shows over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over. I moved down here to GA from NY to finish college and when I go back up to NY on vacations its the exact same stuff I had watched 4-6 months ago.

Baltar I am assuming this is just a picture you put in this post and not your sig but in case it is read this:

Addendum: Signature size limits in the IL2 forums

Unfortunately signature sizes have got out of hand for some users.

Therefore the following rules will apply for signatures. Could everyone please check their signatures and ensure they meet these new guidelines.

- Limited to one image per signature or a short text.
- 400*200 maximum
- 30k maximum

These forums are visited by users with all types of connections and the current situation means that users on dial-up are waiting too long for signatures to download.

The moderators will ensure that these new guidelines are enforced.

NOTE: The file size limit applies to avatars too. Be wary of using animated .gif's in particular. Good animations are very big, even with quite small image dimensions.
