This thread will probably dissapear down the pages in a matter of hours, but i was wondering if there was anyone out there who lives in the Gloucestershire area of England or at least the Midlands or somewhere near.

All my mates think i'm a geek for spending soooo much time in a fantasy world, and none of them fly IL2 but I would like to know if there was anyone around into this, in my local area.

I've been trying to press-gang my friends and family into flight simming since 1998 http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/cry.gif, but haven't had any success so i've decided to look a little further afield.

I played DoD and there were loads of people in my small corner of the world that just kept on popping up saying "hey, u live in Glos don't u?" so maybe the same will happen here.

Failing that, we love the yanks over here and there are many quaint cottage style houses being built at extortionate prices, beautiful English Countryside, warm beer and Fairford Airbase is just around the corner so you'd feel right at home http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Haha, same experience here, but I'm happy to keep FB and my mates separate if that's how it has to be.
There are bound to be some IL-2 nuts near you. I'm in Wiltshire, near Chippenham, so I'm the closest so far that wishes to admit it. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Keep listening for the Merlin engine. The Spitfire has been about again the last couple of weeks. Also had a P51 fly over about a month ago. That was nice to see.

p.s There is a factory in Cam, nr Dursley that restores Merlin engine's. They don't have the planes thoughhttp://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

In North Somerset, but not much use to you yet as our exchange has only just been upgraded to handle broadband and BT have informed me that our lines etc. outside the house need to be upgraded as well. At the moment I get 26-28k connection speed (painful) at home but thankfully work is much quicker. However, joystick and TrackIR2 might draw unwelcome attention http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif so if you can wait a couple of months I'll be interested in getting involved using home connection...

I'm in Pentonville Prison ('C' Wing) and seving time for a number of motiveless serial knife slashings.I will get parole next month and would happily look you up!

We get a good Broadband connection here but the old lags cause some stutter.

Hi there, I live close to Staverton airport between Cheltenham and Gloucester, so yeah I'm local (born & bred). Also as Badsight said, you can find KSS at UBI most of the time, we're mostly brits with a few European and American piots for extra flavouring. Ourwebsite is http://www.kssquad.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/index.html, hasnt been updated for a while (R/L took over http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-sad.gif http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-mad.gif http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/blink.gif) but a new one is being produced at the mo http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif, but it will give you an idea about us. I'm not on for another week or two, but if your interested further just ask Jester, he's one of the squad's surrogate mother's ( http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/mockface.gif http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/icon_twisted.gif http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/784.gif http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/icon_twisted.gif http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/mockface.gif - Hi Jest http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif).

Nice post, Avro! (I'm on the landing below you m8 - aggravated assault and burglary - let's team up http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif)

Actually, I'm in Devon too, just along the coast from Exeter, in Teignmouth. I'm regularly in the big E, so watch out for a green BMW outfit wiv a one-armed rider.....don't get too close. How does 90 up Haldon, with a passenger in the chariot sound?? Not me officer http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/icon_twisted.gif http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/88.gif And the silver dot is not a way of avoiding speed traps, ok?

I like the idea of a West Country squadron too http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif 6BL is a Brit outfit with a few members, some in the UK, some across the pond - and we fly in the evenings and @ weekends exclusively in Hyperlobby. Im Northampton, and I have a couple of mates in town who fly from time to time, plus some in the area who used to fly in CFS1 but went to car racing when IL2 came, I think it was too hard for them. So probably 7 or 8 altogether that I know of locally who do some sort of online stuff. And yes I still have a go at the car racers when I see them to get back into flight sims.

Anyone fancy a co-op game on Sunday evening? I can throw a mission together and host on hyperlobby or via direct IP address. Teamspeak available too.

Regards,

RocketDog.

PS - AEP with the first patch.

hi, i'm from cambridgeshire little village called wimblington (it's only got one pub!!!!), i fly with a few mates from work, and i live about 1 hour from duxford IWM, i'm up for a coop if theres room for one more? any more from my way by the way?

Moon Raking was local slang for smuggling down in these parts I believe http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Something along the lines of barrels being sent down river at night during full moons and guys using rakes to pull em in. When questioned by local law the response was I am trying to rake the moon in.

Been a while scince I heard the story though so I could well be off target.

Should be around Sunday 20:00 hrs if the squad I run with aint doing anything special I will try and drop in and say hi http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

With the amount of folk we have here from the uk it kinda makes me wonder why I havent seen a UK V's match hosted by GOZR yet? Are we just to nice or something http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Bromsgrove, 17 miles South of Birmingham, UK. It's a problem getting the non-believers intersted I know. I must admit I almost gave up when I flew the game on full real setting the first time. It was a pain getting altitude without stalling or being hit by soemone who had altitudse advantage, until I just 'got it', that moment when you realise how it's done. The revelation of knowledge that makes you go "aha, altitude is my friend. Don't attack a plane while taking off....yu'll lose!" As well as many other things that just fall into place. Maybe yur friends just need a little time alone to get that realisation. Good luck, Neil.

Hi you lot http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/354.gif

Good to see this thread up an running again!

I live in Chippenham, in Wiltshire, but I'm really a London boy, having been born and lived there for most of my life.

I've got Pacific Fighters...and I'm hooked!

I'm working my way through a Seafire campaign at the moment. Still experimenting with the "Water" issue...but getting there!

Carrier landings, when achieved, are so satisfying!

Anyway, I was thinking, it would be great if some of us could meet up at a pub one day. I can picture it now, each of us clutching a copy of FB/PF in our hands as a sign of recognition! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Anyway...it's nice to hear from people from the UK!

Cheers,

Derek.

weekend sounds cool to me i can whack together a quick map dogfight or coop? and we can do another one when seafire gets back in two weeks

tHeBaLrOgRoCkS
11-10-2004, 02:29 PM
Hmmm well lemme think, probably best to start of with a dogfight map if were just flying freindly as there a little quicker to throw together and good for ironing out the bugs.

Course there are a few Servers we could jump into that don't get too much traffic too? It all depends how hot your machine is and how many of us there are lol. I got a reasonable connection but my machine is prolly a little under equiped for much more than about 10 or 12 players and I havent hosted a pacific game yet so cant say for sure on that one.

If you wanted to do carriers I guess a coop might be fun kinda island hopping maybe convoy escourt somthing like that? I am pretty easy and I am sure sooner or later blowing something up is gona feature on the list lol

Like I said I am gona be kicking around the lobby on and off all weekend if I can fix a time (wife gets a say in that I am afraid lol) then I will post it up here.

Think I can sort out some comms too but I will have to check.

Well I will throw this idea up in the air and see if it lands on its head.

Toad and myself thrashed a little head to head challenge out a while ago and I wonderd if you guys would be interested in giving it a shot (numbers permitting of course).

Using the map with the big lake in the middle (online island one I think). We developed a system of 1on1 combat eliminater type games.

Basicaly two players (or teams if numbers permit) start from the same airfield climb to an agreed altitude in opposite directions then turnabout and head toward each other.

Up to this point weapons are 'cold' (no firing). Once the participants pass each other weapons go hot and from that point the two players duke it out until either both crash or one is beaten. Winner stays (unless he retires) and another contender steps up to the plate.

Essentialy its a joust you both have the same aircraft fuel and weapon load outs and its purely down to the players own skill to beat the other?

Its an idea and its something we could maybe run once a month as a kinda freindly competition with out having any real squad obligations. Of course the bonus is we get to socialise a bit and meet other squads.

Not saying that it would be the only thing we do but it might give us all a chance to learn some tricks and tactics?

We could start out with something nice and gentle like Gladiators and move up through the list ?

What do you think ?

Oh yeah we have the maps for (as far as I know) every plane up to 2.04 so we would just have to update a few to take the pacific expansion into account.

Don't think so mate? I was online Saturday but I guess nobody felt like it. Also I was distracted by squad mate trying to get me to re-install bloody 2.04 this weekend http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_mad.gif ended up spending the evening on sunday playing that instead. Gotta admit I doubt I will be playing Pacific online until the patch gets released and hopefully any issues (imagined or otherwise) get sorted.

Side note : I think I am gona have to look into building some kinda host machine that I can leave running in conjunction with FBdeamon and hopefully when the dedicated server is released I will have a crack at it.

Still I get on HL pretty regular so drop me a line if your bored and need your *** kicked heheh. As a result of all my fooking around I have 2.04 pacific stand alone and PF/AEP/Fb so am good for any flavour lol

Hmm hard drive upgrade may be in order too lol

Well I am bored and curious about this one.

How many of you guys actually fly Brit planes on a regular basis ?

Do you even bother with the pacific maps now the novelty has had time to wear off until its patched?

Do you think they would have been better off modeling the Med/North African campaigns?

Do you? Like me need a shower after you fly the p-51 cos you feel dirty LOL

Just a silly excuse to bump this thread again and say Hello

I do, anything which once had RAF or RN roundels. I'm reeeeeeeaaaaaallllyyyyy looking forward to the http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/heart.gif Tempest http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/heart.gif and later mark Spits

Do you even bother with the pacific maps now the novelty has had time to wear off until its patched?

I started a Seafire campaign, then had ground attack missions only to find the Seafire hasn't got any iron to chuck about. I'm waiting for the patch...

Do you think they would have been better off modeling the Med/North African campaigns?

I'd prefer the Med/Africa to the Pacific, but its easy to get around it by playing the excellent El alamain and The Blue campaigns available for download.

Do you? Like me need a shower after you fly the p-51 cos you feel dirty LOL

Yup, A wire brush and Dettol does the trick! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

I fly the Spit Religiously, no matter what mark, also the beau cos it's such a cool plane and it stomps on those yanks with a vengeance, can't wait for the tempests,

not really i use normandy map a lot i just want brit isle map and northern france with the south coast of england on it.

Wouldn't have minded a med/nafrica campaign / addon, but i'm happy neway.

Always need a rock shower after flying nething american, apart from the P38L and J cos there cool and have got dive brakes that work (well the L has)

marlet will have blue nose http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif. i cant remmber if someone chose a nosecolour for gladiator.
i THINK p40 is done, p51d also. and a spitV

so that leaves hurri, bue, brewster, p51b/c p47, p39,spit9 half done.

spit8,seafire, b25,a20,f6f,f4u and american dive bomber not started.

dont think p63 or p80 served with raf.

ps desert planes will get heavy worn version like this
http://premium.uploadit.org/pingu666/desertdarker.bmp
thats a p51d if u cant tell.
if theres a nose colour u want on a perticular plane, say http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif
