and I know you can install it over Il2/FB/AEP.

But I wonder if this means that the older planes will be able to also open their canopies.

(Like FW, Yak, He-111 etc ) ??

First we need to wonder how the canopies are opened. Will they just jump from closed state to open state and back, or will they slide/swing back and forth?

Judging from current cockpit anime, they will slide/swing, but its doubtful FB planes will have this Feature. Now, they say FP will have open canopies, Awsum, but that does not mean the total FBP will allow open canopies (except some like P11c of course).

Don't know about FB planes they are sneaking into FP, like Zero, or maybe a certain few FB planes will be re~done, those that will come with the basic stand~alone FP package.

I'm done now. Sorry. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I doubt our existing FB planes will have opening canopies. Right now the 3D models(both external and internal) don't have the ability to be opened. I suppose it's possible that 1C could go back and modify all the existing models, but I'm doubting it.

I have read somewhere that when the canopy is opened, your seat position will be raised a little. This will be somewhat like the gunsight view toggle (SHF F1) in FB now.

I think I've seen the Zero and the Rufe flying with open canopies (The Zero is an existing plane) so that was the genisis of my query.

Yeah, I'm sure than any existing models that were present in the Pacific(P-51,A6M,P-47,etc.) will be modified, but I'm doubting non-Pacific related planes such as LaGGs and 190s will get the same treatment.

I hope it is a smooth opening and closing animation and, where the canopy is cranked open, that the crank is rotated a la the I16 landing gear crank animation. An instataneous open/closed jamshot would not be ideal to me.

Saw the opening canopies in action (on the seaspit) at the Australian flight expo over the weekend.

The shots that I saw of it was from within the cockpit. The motion of it opening was as one fluid movement. Did not notice if your seat postion changed (thats not to say that it did or did not).

"There were still others who would fire a quick burst, then quickly break off; or watch somebody else hammer an airplane, then, when the German was already windmilling and going down, dive in and fire a quick burst, then try to share credit for the kill. I had a guy do that to me. Believe me, he never did it again."

Must you open canopy before you Ctrl+B (for Bail) ??

...I suggest remapping this control cos Ctrl+E is for LOMAC...which I will never play until they add some real flyable jets...

Open the canopy before bailing out?

I didn?t see anyone bail out but my guess would be that you wouldn't have to open the canopy to bail out as a lot of planes had the emergency canopy release. I'm sure that if you wanted to open the canopy first and then bail out you could (and pray that there is no animation of a canopy falling away).

All of them?

I believe in DOS Flaker 1.0 you could *briefly* see the canopy falling away. Don't really remember but there was a great if too brief first person view of ejection from Su~27.

...and that was 1994 flight sim made for 486 cpu. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

It's a generalisation to say "a lot of planes" had them and when I mention "had them" I am referring to real world, not PF.

I think the process of bailing out will be much the same as it is at the moment. Where at the moment of you popping the hatch it's an external view where you can see the canopy fall. If you have the canopy open, then I would expect that you wouldn't see it fall away.

Well for those that did not have jetts than we must open hood first.

MiG~3 pilots flew with canopy open cos they Feared being trapped inside either by damage or high speed. I'd like for flight sims to someday have damaged canopies slowing you from bail out. You see the ground coming up and you can't jettison the hood so you start opening the canopy wondering what Noob asked for open canopies. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Normally alot of anime stuff I hate for flight sims but bailing out is so personal it really should be modded in detail. Flanker 1.0 made you eject automatically if your plane was "shot down" and I hated that. I wanted to go through a procedure. mmm

I think the idea of a damaged canopy release would be a good idea. The bail out under high g is this sim, I've gone in with my plane more than once while the trying to get out of a dive.

hm
well most slide back (easy to put in?). for me the big question is russian birds, and 109
109 has a sideways fold open ?.
it would be impractical to use it anyways irl for 109

They did use it. They pushed it open and it ripped away in the "wind" and out leaped German Aces to tell the story years later. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Janes WWII Fighters had jammed canopy that would prevent you from bailing.

Any planes that had flip up canopies would not be flown open. Such as P38, 109, etc.

Only sliding Canopies could be opened while in flight. F4F, F6F, F4U, Zekes, P47, P51.
