Oleg/Gents,

I promissed to post this chart some time ago:

Daimler-Benz 605 engine subtypes performance chart:

http://www.axiomdigital.com/db605.htm

The chart is still missing the boost levels for the max acheived power ratings (in ATA) for each of the engines sub-types, as well as a listing of which particular sub-variants of the Gustav's and Kurfurst was fitted with which DB605 subtypes, but I will working at adding those over time.

I have most of that data handy, just no time to edit it in http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

Cheers,

Your're welcome. Had the info for a long time....just no time to put it in clear HTML. Info is considered very accurate as most of it comes from Mercedez-Benz and I "trippled check" just about all the info using other sources.

I just added some DB/German supercharging info. I will be adding the DB605DM engine at 1.75 ATA, as well as levels of boost in ATA need to attain max output at sea level.

Last will be a listing of all of the production Bf 109 Gustav & Kurfurst variants with the listing of the DB605 engines subtype(s) that were fitted to the particular variants.

Made some changes and updates:

- added DB605DM engine and max output at sea level;

- added supercharger boost levels (in ATA) at max output @ sea level for many engines subtypes in table;

+ some other details.

Everyone feel free to bookmark for future references.

Nice info. It would be really helpful if it included the maximum altitude at which each max power rating could be maintained, before the variable drive kicks in and starts stealing power.
This would allow us to work out the pressure ratio of the supercharger, and maybe its efficiency too.

Great page, thank you.

Any chance of one for the BMW801 too? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Tweaked the chart layout a little for better readability.

I have updated the page with additional info and tweaked yet more the layout for better redability.

However, I need a German speaking volonteer to translate the engine cutaway legend to accurate english. Email me at jagdmailer@apexmail.com if you want/can to help. No guesses please.....

Improvement on the page will continue, but next is: JagdMailer's BMW801 radial powercharts!!!!! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Thanks!

Hoarmurath,

No I did not know of those. Thanks for the link.

My initial goad with page I am putting together was to have a simple & effective english (for ease of sharing) language comparison page which shows most/all operational variants of the DB605 engine with their different ratings, boost levels and fuel requirement.

I will be integrating other features in the future.

On those pages, it does not show boost levels for DB605D C3 (or DB605D-2) at sea level. Would you happen to know about that one ?

Thanks!

no sorry, this is currently all i have on the DB605... I'll keep an eye open for more.

OK.

I have tweaked the page even more. I have provided 2 ways of converting the German ATA in PSI, ie. relative (British equivalent) and absolute (US equivalent) for people to compare. I may include Hg later. (Thanks to Hops).

I also used Hoarmurath references to add some of the missing supercharger boost level @ sea level to the comparision chart.

You are welcome.

Technical German is not really my strenght so I did ask for a "qualified" volonteer to translate but I have had no takers so far http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-mad.gif

Anyone that knows technical German willing to help translate that cutaway ?

Thanks!

Hi Jagdmailer!

I've got some questions on the chart you posted:

There are both the DB605DB and the DB605DC engine listed with their correct hp-outputs at sealevel/rated altitude. However what made me somewhat confused is that it also lists the following:

DB605DB: (1550hp at rated altitude not 1600 IIRC with B4 fuel)

max. climbing output at sea level --> 1430hp
max. climbing output at rated altitude --> 1285hp
max. cruise output at sea level --> 1120hp
max. cruise output at rated altitude --> 1160hp

now compare it with the DB605DC (2000 at sealevel, 1800 at rated altitude).
To my mind as the DB605DC clearly has more power it should also provide more output than the DB. However that's not the case on your chart.

DB605DC:

max. climbing output at sea level --> 1370hp
max. climbing output at rated altitude --> 1285hp
max. cruise output at sea level --> 1100hp
max. cruise output at rated altitude --> 1140hp

that makes the DB605DC inferior in everything except "climbing output at rated altitude" at which it is equal to the DB...

Now I really can't understand this!?!?!? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/crazy.gif
Why does an engine which provides 200hp extra power give less output?? Did I miss anything!?

And what happens if you run the DB605DB on C3 fuel...?? if you use B4 then you get the specs that show up on the chart

Karaya,

I definately have max output at rated altitude for DB605DB at 1600hp @6000m and 2800 rpm.

The source for the info including the data for DB605DB & DB605DC is Mercedez-Benz AG archives, unless noted otherwise.

Some more tweaks to the page and additional info - including the DB605L engine & supercharger boost level for all DB605 engines at sea-level now.
