hello
can't get enough of the silent hunter series
just bought the silent hunter commanders
edition
i am trying to get it to run on my system
i have a hp XL754
pent lll , 850 mgh , Windows Me
it does not want to run because it wants a
MOS-DOS system
anyone know a way to get my system to run in
DOS mode
and by the way at least with the delay of silent hunter 111 , i will have more time to buy a new system , that will good enough
for silent hunter 111
they are not cheap !!!!!!!!!!

i know the feeling, i bought a new comp for SHIII and i won't run AOD http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/cry.gif http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

but enough with my problems, where to begin with yours http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif
ME is a P.O.S, worst OS ever made, micro$oft should be ashamed http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/51.gif
(as if they have shame right? lol)

first:
find a copy of Windows 95 or 98
Wipe the hard drive
install 95 or 98
try SH again

ok the SHIII thing: will it run on your machine: very doubtful http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif
simply put you will need a 1Ghz processor at least to run something as new and complex as SHIII

could i ask a few questions about your current hardware setup?:

What Graphics Card do you have?
how much memory does the card have?

what motherboard do you have? (its usually written on it somewhere near the CPU or RAM slots)

HP XL754, thats PC 100 SDRAM. how much do you have?
the fact is SD means you are even less likely to be able to run SHIII http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Well, unless you've got a 3.0Ghz CPU, on an 8x AGP board, 512 DDR RAM, and a GeForce FX5950 Ultra hidden away i don't think you'll be running SHIII at all http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

My verdict: sorry to say, but it looks like you'll be needing a new system http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

If you have any questions or would like some help with hardware, don't hesitate to ask http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

SHI even runs under XP (SHI on XP (http://www.subsowespac.org/sh_xp/silent_hunterxp.shtml)), so there must be a way to let it run under ME.

Have you tried going to DOS first and then installing the game ? Somewhere in your ME startmenus there should be an option to go to the DOSprompt.

I got SH1 to run under XP, but I had to download some emulators and similar programs. I can't exactly remember, but somewhere in Subsim.com there was site to a Silent Hunter 1 group - Pacific Thunder or something I think - and they had instructions, VERY DETAILED - on how exactly to get Silent Hunter 1 to work on XP. It works pretty well on my XP.

right click the programmes exe and select properties, then click the compatability tab, choose to run the game for win95 or win98,you may have to run the game in 256 colours.

that works half the time so heres hoping you get lucky.
