I have a couple questions that I KNOW are newbie ones...

1) I hear there is documentation, but can't seem to find it in the directory. Is it on the CD, and not installed?

2) Shouldn't the training missions let you fly instead of a "classroom" session where you read subtitles and watch the "instructor"?

3) I bought the Gold edition that has the AEP included. After installing AEP, I no longer have the original IL-2:Forgotten Battles icon. I'm assuming it was just replaced w/ the newer expansion pack icon, and if/when I ever get the Pacific campaign, it would do the same. Right?

I am sure I have more, but they have slipped my mind at the moment. Thanks for not slaying me after my first post. Now to search the forums for any answers. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

1, not sure http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
2, hmm know the feeling, been there a long time ago, but can you not take over...not sure.

3, Yes Gold replaces the original version but there are 2 patches online for the Gold version that give you even more planes, u will need those for flying online http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

go to http://www.3dgamers.com/games/il2sturmovik2/

you want
May 19, 2004 102 MB patchil2_aep_201.exe - Ace Expansion Pack retail v2.00 -> v2.01 patch
Jul 20, 2004 19.7 MB aep_patch204.exe - Ace Expansion Pack retail v2.01 -> v2.04 patch

Those two in that order ok http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif 2.02 and 2.03 were never released, so those are correct. welcome aboard http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif you will love it.

You can also download paintschemes for your planes from www.il2skins.com (http://www.il2skins.com)

Where's that whupping stick ?

<just kidding> http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

# 2) the original IL-2 had an option to ESC out of the instructional track and take over the plane yourself in the lesson, but it was disabled in FB and now AEP also.

# 3) I have the same icon in AEP as when I had FB (the IL-2 pointed in a NW direction), so I don't know the different icon in AEP that you describe.

Hi John, the replies provided above should get you going. Be ashured though that this sim/drug takes ALOT of your time and if you have a girl or wife, well it could get uglyhttp://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif If not, you'll be fine except for your social life, lol. There are better tactical guides that can be found online than what you get with the game.

I can't really point you at one, though, because when I first got FB I could take off and land, and do basic maneuvering. I picked up gunnery skills through practice (great way to get target practice, quick mission builder, set up a flight of four friendly Pe-8's or B-17's, practice coming at them from all angles, eventually try to zero in on specific parts, again from all angles. Before long you will be a decent shot).

I picked up most of my tactics from hanging around this board and reading people discussing this maneuver and that manuever, etc.

Its a fantastic game, stick with it through the learning curve and you will be well rewarded.

One more tip in addition to the ones given...If you go fly online, download Hyperlobby. And when you go flying online, DONT tell anyone you're new - no matter what happens. They WILL hurt you. Good luck.

There might be some useful stuff for you in the guide linked in my sig. I'm actively working on expanding it, honest!

Definitely check out Tailspin's Tales:

This a new and promising-looking site:

I can't seem to find georgeo76's site, is it the "Fighting for Your Life" site whose link is a dead end? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Kozhedub: In combat potential, the Yak-3, La-7 and La-9 fighters were indisputably superior to the Bf-109s and Fw-190s. But, as they say, no matter how good the violin may be, much depends on the violinist. I always felt respect for an enemy pilot whose plane I failed to down.

Wow...this game is GREAT! I can now do.....LEVEL FLIGHT! woo!

I'm doing basic ACM now...but keep throwing my plane in to spins. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif I think I'm trying to turn too hard w/o actually breaking.

Anyway....I've done some MP stuff which was fun, but I think I'll stick w/ single player for now. Thanks for ALL the help...you guys are great.

Cheers,

john

Heads-on firing was not a safe practice after all ?
Jussi Huotari: It was not specially recommended‚.....
And later, as the Russians were armed with 20mm cannons, it was unwise to meet them heads-on
