Soz for posting so much i just registred and like to point out some bugs etc :P

anyway
The bismarc (German battleship) can be destroyed by torpedoes!!! THis is wrong it couldnt be sunk by torpedoes cuz its armor was soo thick and it had different technices which im too lazy to explain that made it torpedoe safe, but in il2 it can be sunk by torpedoes lolol ffs, the britts couldnt sink it so they had to pwn it themself by putting a bomb in the bottom of the ship when a AIMBOTER torpedoe had hit its rudder so it only could go in circles after they had sent like all torpedoe planes etc they had after it !

lol etc cu

Its not the Bismarck...its the Tirpitz, the sister ship of the Bismarck that never really got to sail. She was bombed repeatedly by Lancaster bombers and other types (Mosquitors and Fireflys as well) while in dry dock being built.

And it being killed by torpedoes is a bit of a misnomer. It takes something like 10 or 15 torps to sink it....and thats way more than ever hit the Bismarck. I saw the documentary, yes it was tough and took the torp hits it did take quite well (except the rudder) but that many torps would eventually cause a problem.

@Icefire :

dude check your google .....
The Tirpitz did see combat of course.
It mainly Operated in Trondheim, Norway.
A Bombrun in 1944 set it out of service due to a bombhit to the bow.

No further info but a recommendation.
You should all go and read Alaister McLeans H.M.S. Ulysses. Just finished it and its about the most gut wrenching account of the battle for the Northern Atlantic that i have ever read. Based on actual events, sort of historical fiction. All about the escort of convoy 77 to Murmansk. Will give you a really good idea of just how hard it is to sink a cruiser or even a destroyer and the living hell that was a Russian convoy.

It is primarily about how convoy 77 was used a bait to tempt the Tirpitz out of port and try and destroy her.

The Cruel Sea and the Good Shepherd are allso highly recommended if you want exciting and well written books on naval actions of the second world war. Cant remember who wrote them though.

Skychimp is right a 50s burst well placed at the 2
m wide airvent system would cause a chain reaction and the ship would explode.

High Ground is not only more agreeable and salubrious, but more convenient from a military point of view; low ground is not only damp and unhealthy, but also disadvantageous for fighting.
