View Full Version : Why did they include western front maps in AEP?

04-09-2004, 07:50 AM
I bought AEP and on the back of the box it says new maps incl. ardennes and normandy, and when I get home I open the box and read the manual. It also has a huge section on new maps especially the new Ardennes and normandy. But why all this when you can't play these maps anyway? You can't play campains with these maps, and neither QMB. You can load them in your editor and huh? Fun... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif but not when all your wanted was to jump into action on the western front.

That was the only reason that I bought it. Why? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif

1. The maps were introduced because they (and some aircraft) were done for the Battle over Europe product. The rest of us get free maps for the FMB.

2. BoE doesn't have campaigns for all the new aircraft in AEP, but will be patched in shortly.

3. The DCG can be made to use those maps, check out http://www.lowengrin.com/

You need to Buy Battle over Europe from Justflight @ http://Justflight.net/

or download DGen from here
http://members.shaw.ca/lowengrin/ http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

or install UQMG which you can get here.
http://www.uberdemon.com/ http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

The reason it is not included with ACES is because these maps were previously released with a patch for free. Starshoy is getting to distribute his DGen with the Western Front and make $$$ because he spent about a year making the maps and Campaign and he is not on Oleg's payroll. I guess he needs to eat too. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I personally like BOE best out of these options, but the others are free. Maybe you want to try them first while you are waiting for BOE to come in the mail. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Either use the UQMG or take the time to learn the FMB itisnt as hard as it seems and you wont be sorry. Look at the Sturmovik Essentials thread and find Eastern Skies... they have an excellent FMB tutorial there. Once you see how easy it is to use you will be pleased. I can whip up a QM style FM on any map I choose in about 5 minutes with flak and everything. Usint the UQMG is just as easy and quick as the QMB and Uber D is coming out with the upadated version shortly.

Good thing you posted your frustration here instead of throwing the disc at the wall. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/52.gif
Now you have a whole new project to play with.

Campaigns for Normandy and Ardennes won't likely appear in "mainline" releases before BoB.

This interview explains how these maps and Western Front objects were created and why campaigns are supported only in a separate product, called Battle over Europe.

News on that is that we will have 5 new careers.

P-38 fighter bomber, Stuka D5 night bomber, BF-110 interceptor, Me-163 rocket interceptor and RAF fighter or fighter/bomber career.

It is done except of German and French localisation of RAF career (and new Spitfires for this career)

After release of Oleg's patch (or rather after time when I have final version of it), I need a couple of days to add the planes. Plus I need German and French texts, I hope they will be ready even before that. The rest depends on JF - but it all should be done pretty quickly. Early to mid April?

they did so because Belgium rules http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/mockface.gif

Hehe
No it's because the ardennes where a very important battleground.
and AEP is a add-on to FB but it sure isn't bound to the eastern front
it's name is Aces expansion pack
not russian aces or something http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Until we get a western Germany the Ardennes will have to substitute for late war fighting between the Allies and the Germans.

I'm hoping for at least a portion of this area...part of the Rhine or something in an upcoming addon.
