I haven't played it in a while but have the feeling the new Uplay is the culprit my FC3 is no longer loading but generating a dump file
I have already reinstalled FC3 but Uplay insists downloading again?

what is going on?

Hey. Can you try the Verify Files option by clicking the arrow on the game tile? This should double check the files installed and redownload any that are needed. You say you are being asked to to download it again? Is it the full game installation or a smaller patch? On the download window you should find the downloaded and total download size (Downloading xxx/xxx MB)

Can you provide more information on the crash, are you receiving an error message and is it related to Uplay.exe or FC3.exe? You may also wish to review the post here (http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/1055788)to provide some files that may help us to identify the issue. You can either submit them through the email address listed so I can take a look, or through the support site. (https://support.ubi.com)

Hi,
I can't verify FC3 files .. just FC4
It's the full game install and Uplay does not ask to download .. just doing it. However I can kill the download - see attachment

I have a dump file that I could forward to which email?

The situation is I do have the FC3 setup/install files here hence no need to download anything but it seems I can't do anything but watching it?! I just want to point uplay to the new FC3 install but it keeps insisting and downloading no matter what.

.. and here you can uninstall the not installed:

Hi, Far Cry 3 previously used the old installation method, using a traditional setup.exe but has now been updated to use the new technology method as listed here (http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/1212485)

If you downloaded the setup files, or backed them up when it used the old installation method you should still be able to install from these files by running the setup.exe directly (Default location: C:/Program Files (x86)/Ubisoft/Ubisoft Game Launcher/cache/installers/) but this type of installation will not be detected by the Detect Existing Game Files (http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/1013662) feature.

The crash you experience, is this when attempting to launch the game directly from the Far Cry .exe file? You can send the dump file to the uplaycommunity(at)ubisoft.com email address.

While you should be able to install and play using the old setup files, I would recommend that you download the files using the new method when possible.

Thanks.

Yes, Uplay is def unable to detect FC3 installations.

Okay, I let it download and did wonder what happened:
My Default install directory in Uplay is set to D: Games/Ubisoft/ FC3 which is where it is already installed - see attachment
http://pasteboard.co/1Bh0GyWD.jpg

The download actually was stored at D: Games/Ubisoft/ FC3/FC3 (disregard correct dir spelling... but double.. wth...WHY?) which then was the new game location while there still is FC3 one level up.
I now could start the game from both locations FC3 and FC3/FC3 but whata waste of disk space, no?

Okay, then I found the two registry entries I needed to modify to eliminate this double installation and all is working again hence I moved the new installation to its old place.

Seriously, why the HECK is all that? masochism? wasting people's time/money by downloading again unnecessarily?
if people have the setup files just let them point to the new installation and there it goes.

and, NO, I can install FC3 fine (with the old setup) but NOT play coz Uplay jumps in and downloads.... until it's done hence preventing the game's start until Uplay has formally installed it - nice, no?

me not amused...
