Was on a bombing mission in my LA5f offline. We were in line astern, closing to the enemy convoy. I was watching the skies above repeatedly, but finally I had to check my map.

I heard a faint `dah-dah-dah`.
Hmmm, what`s that? sounds like far-away gun fire , I thought lazily, forgetting that anything sounding far away is actually TOO CLOSE!

"One, bail out! BAIL OUT!" screams one of my wingmen.

Joystick, no response- 30ft from the ground and closing- I can`t bail- I can`t stay here - BOOOM!

It`s not often I get B&Z by an enemy 110 Zerstorer. A very realistic attack I`d say.

Hm, who's underestimating the AI?

Planes also tend to materialize out of nowhere in this game. There you are, clear skies, nothing on the map, and all of a sudden, WHAM! The sky is full with bogies!

That's one of the beauties of the game. You can be flying a stellar offline campaign and feeling real good about yourself. Then on a routine transfer on a clear day, bam. Green plasma flyies by canopy with no warning bringing you out of your day dream. You bail and then, your chute gets shredded by your own prop. End of story. All this in a manner of seconds and a quite lazy afternoon in Kuban. I for one never under estimate the AI I just get lulled into a false sense of security and end up paying the price.

I reckon the AI has improved somewhat with the latest couple of patches - BnZ actually seems to work now.

Also they really work well as a team now.

Has anyone noticed how sometimes one will break from the swarm and almost goad you into a dogfight whilst his buddies gain alt in readiness to attack you when you're not looking.

I've noticed that the enemy AI to be pretty good at times (especially anything above average), but sometimes my AI squad mates fly like they're drunk.

Their BNZ tactics are massively better than before. I still find they tend to end up in a flat trajectory at the end of their run and then its easy pickings for anyone with some good deflection shooting skill but overall they have gotten supremely better at being smart and capable of fighting you in a dogfight. They still can't lead shoot...but that may be a bad thing...they still posses some level of AI sharpshooter ability you see with AI elsewhere.

Yes, I definitely see an AI improvement after 1.21 and 1.22 with regards to team fighting. More cooperation attacking bomber formations. I noticed the AI "wolfpack" tactics mentioned by Extreme_One. I've seen head on attacks against bombers also, as opposed to parking on their six all the time now. Once in a rare while. I also see a Thach Weave.

On the other hand, after patch 1.22 the AI has the annoying habit of taking all combat down to low-levels almost every time. Combat can start at 5000 m., but you can bet that in a short amount of time everyone will be dogfighting at heights of less than 300 m., with the effect that several aircraft always misjudge the height and split S themselves into the ground.

Just wish they would sort out the AI sniper gunners and if we can't see in clouds neither should they http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/blink.gif
