quote:
Ubisoftâ's Montreal studios has been quietly working on the latest game that looks to be the final chapter in Myst-proper.

I stopped reading right there, is this statement fact or speculation? I realize that for a franchise to continue to be developed it has to bring in the funds, but with the exception of Myst none of the other games have been "Oh my gosh they broke all the records" successes. Will Revelation have to be more fiscally successful in order for the Myst franchise to continue?

[Edit]
Not going to read the rest of the article, don't want to spoil myself http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif. After considering my post, I've come up with another possible explanation - that after Revelation, there won't be any more story to tell in the Atrus-family arc, and perhaps that's what they mean by "the final chapter in Myst-proper." (A fact which might have been clarified in the article).

I'd say speculation.

The word "final" has been tossed around - referring to Path of the Shell as the final Uru expansion pack.

We already have semi-official word from Bill Slease and Ryan W.... of Cyan that there is another project in the works known as "Somethinig Else (TM)"

And besides, why would Cyan let another company make the final Myst game. Uru Live wasn't THAT much of a disaster!

Nope definitely speculation, and as Einstein said:
"A very good theory, and wrong."

EDIT: Oh yeah, and as Atrus said:
"The ending can never truly be written..."

Bleugh don't really like this one.

First of all, he's dishin Uru. Don't start a Myst review by dishin' one of its games.

quote:
In Myst you could explore worlds that were â˜containedâ' within books.

Obviously a hardcore fan.
(Should say "In Myst you could travel through books which 'link' to other worlds to explore" or something like that.)

I think the answer to the question about whether M4 is the "final" Myst game is simply unanswered.

Yes, Cyan is working on "Something Else". Something different. Different how? We don't know.

Even if SE(tm) is set completely outside the D'ni universe, there could still be another D'ni game (which I would say is a better term than Myst game) in the future, whether made by Cyan, Ubi, or Someone Else http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif I would bet that nobody knows one way or the other about that.

Someone Else http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Well I think they are trying to call them "Myst" games. Even though Uru is probably NOT a Myst game, recall the POTS box with its big ugly MYST heading!

I actually hope Something Else(TM) is a Myst/D'ni game. Its just cool.

Have all of you pointing out the errors of the site noticed that according to that article the objective of Myst was to chase down the brothers and trap them in books? As I recall with every puzzle you solve you get closer to RELEASING them.
