I recently saw a web page about early IL2 where the strengthes of the guns in the sim were compared. It was pointed that the games uses specific sequences of different bullet types for each gun, for example

MG151/20: HE, HE, AP, AP, T
MG81: AP, T
(HE=explosive, AP=armor piercing, T=tracer)
(these are just imaginary examples)

The point is that the game seems to support this bullet-type-sequence-for-ammunition-belt-system.

I think it would be great to have an option in the game to set your favorite bullet type sequence for each gun or at least each gun type on your aircraft.

So you could set only AP rounds when engaging IL2s or a higher HE ratio when attacking fighters fighters.

I'm all for this - being able to go out and touch someone without tracers warning them would be sweet indeed.

or maybe you could boost the MG17s by adding some HE or burning rounds like thos of the ShKAS so the MG17 at least does ANY damage

That would be nice.....I know for many of the US pilots the last 50 rounds or so were tracers...thats how they knew when they were out. The downside of that is that at distances sometimes tracer fire is the only way to tell where the action is.

Not sure how realistic that is but so much is so unrealistic in this "sim" that I'm all for it! And yes, MG17 needs to be fixed so that it can be used to shoot down planes, not tickle them. And please, don't tell me to learn how to shoot, anyone can form up on an enemy and hold down the trigger forever to finally get the engine to smoke.

When in doubt, climb!

Already brought up in ORR long time ago. Maybe in his next sim (BoB), but not possible in this one is the short answer.

I know in the Yak-9K (my first love) the big gun has Armor peircing; HE/tracer;AP; HE/Tracer; etc.

The rounds whose trail is visible explode on contact, the invisible ones destroy anything they hit directly. Engine, pilot, tank, etc.
