Wellome to Forgotten Board.

Post your computer specs. I had trouble initially last year with my, um, Trident integrated video and OpenGL. You may wish to try OpenGL vs DirectX, back then ESCAPE key only worked under DirectX for Trident video. ATI 9200 now, and all is fine. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I too was slapped in the face when I first heard about this sim last April, never heard of IL~2/FB until then. UBI marketing. Heard about it on Flanker~2 webboard, then saw it had I~16 and MiG~3, sim was created by Russians, and I ran to the WalMarts late at night as fast as I could

...and I otherwise NEVER shop at WalMarts http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/52.gif http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/51.gif

and get well soon

Welcome to the community!

Don't shudder too much about the nitpicky arguments that go on around here and enjoy the view! Its great fun this game and it takes a while to truly get into it (you may want to practice offline before you go online proper) but when you're really into things its fantastic.

Be ready to learn, read, and get to understand some of the finer points of WWII aircraft and aircombat plus were here on the board for whatever help you need! Good luck and enjoy!

To exit a mission in progress, press the ESC key. If for any reason that doesn't work, check that the conf has the following lines. If absent, add, close and save changes.

[HotKey gui]
Escape=activate

Use the FAQ link to airwarfare to get a fast basic understanding of the sim.

The sound is the one thing in the game that's considered sub-standard. The rest is great!

Welcome welcome. You should have hours of fun while you should be doing schoolwork. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/35.gif

Your gun sounds may be a bit quiet as a result of your sound settings. Go into sound setup from within the game and you can turn knobs and poke buttons to get different effects. Volume MAIN might bring up your gun sounds.

Also, some guns like the hispanos sound like change gingling in your pocket while the Mk108 sounds like a battleship gun. The .50 cals are too quiet. Any Thunderbolt pilot would tell you that firing all 8 was deafening. In fact, it usually scared the noobs outta their seats the first time they pulled the trigger. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

As the other fellow said, the sound really is the weak link in the sim, and all things considered that's not too shabby.

Now come fly online and shoot us all down. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/784.gif

Just a tip, since you have Soundstorm Audio you might want to use that instead of the SB Live card. It's a very good onboard sound chip comparable to the Audigy. Should give a performance boost as well since it has it's own processor.

the Nf7-s mobo doesnt have a serial game port---- i had to install the SBlive so i could use a joystick.... i have a USB adapter, but with that method, all i have is two axis and two buttons. and it jitters all over the place..... i havent found another joystick i like that has a decent price and is USB.

The a/c in Forgotten Battles tend to nose up. You'll need to trim the elevators.

default keys are;
Ctrl + up arrow: Positive trim
Ctrl + down arrow: Negative trim
Shift + up arrow: Neutral trim

I have mine on a rotary of my Saitek X-45.

If you looking for another stick:
http://www.saitekusa.com/usa/images/product/pcp/x45.jpg
Find it at: http://www.saitekusa.com/usa/prod/x45.htm
Around $80 USD.

If you want to spend more the best HOTAS is considered the Couger:
http://us.thrustmaster.com/products/big/hotas.gif
Found here: http://us.thrustmaster.com/products/d_prd.php?p=T84&fam=6

Quite a bit more money but those who own one swear by them.

Hope this helped.

oh, and jwidsvs before you re~install http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif do this...

Install FB/AEP to default ubi folder, the one with the long C:\Progra...ubi..blah blah

Then make a copy folder with simple name C:\FB and copy your install into their with Patches. Patch up in C:\FB and play the game from the copy folder C:\FB (need to change FB desktop icon starting address). Do this cos if you mess up your FB you only need to Delete your copy folder and make new copy from C:\Progra...ubi..blah blah

So, if your FB ever gets messed up, you never again have to install from CD.

Kozhedub: In combat potential, the Yak-3, La-7 and La-9 fighters were indisputably superior to the Bf-109s and Fw-190s. But, as they say, no matter how good the violin may be, much depends on the violinist. I always felt respect for an enemy pilot whose plane I failed to down.
