The 109 has an image of an airplane on its compass. I have heard that this serves some meaning but now quite sure how it works exactly. When I request a Vector to home base, A response is given to me. Is this the correct heading to take to find my way home?

If you are flying a COOP Mission it will point to your next waypoint.

In Dogfights I'm not sure, but it would logical for it to point to home base - don't know though

The waypoints were automatically programmed via the compass. If you follow the direction of the image, you will head to your next waypoint, and it will eventually point back to base. However, if you do not reach each waypoint, get into a dogfight and need to head back to base, it won't automatically point there. You have to follow the directions given by the base when asked "direction to home base". In IL-2 if you told your flight group to "return to base", the compass would point in the direction of the base...in FB, it does not do this.
