Hey there folks....here are some of the pics I took at the museum on Monday...... They are kind of grainy because I had to lighten them up. The lighting there was great for eyes but my little ol 2.2 MP camera wasnt so bright..but it did the trick..... Aside from the Enola Gay protestors it was a very nice day..my son was on cloud 9...getting to see some of those planes he sees me reading about and flying in FB (He does too!! He still flies CFS1 & 2 & IL2 on his computer though... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif) up close and personal. The only beef i had was that there was no Tuskegee exhibit...not even a mention... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif but I will sit tight and wait and see. I cant believe they would leave them out of the museum alltogether. From what I understand it is still a work in progress so I will keep the faith. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Excellent pictures there! Some fantastic stuff they have there...I suppose virtually all of it is static (it doesn't fly anymore)?

bearcat, you should give your son warning before snapping the pics, he looks surprised as hell in both of them http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif, Handsome boy BTW

My understanding is that while the planes ARE static and don't fly anymore, great care was taken to refurbish them back into flyable condition...so they may fly if the need, desire or inclination were to arise.

Look to spend about 2-3 hours minimum Tank. Thanks gerogeo..... He's just a big ol ham thats all. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Most of the planes there are capable of flight. I know the Concorde & the DC3 they have there flew in... I was there when they landed.... the Gossamer Condor is also there, along with a Mercury,Gemini & Apollo capsule. Eddie Rickenbacker's uniform, lots of other stuff. The simulators arent up yet.

Corsair...how I love thee.
BTW, you should try to sneak into the FW-190 cockpit and see if the view really was that horrible. :P

Enola Gay protestors? Sounds like a bunch of people who think it is not proper that the plane that dropped the first nuke is shown in that museum.
Seems they can't catch the point guys like us see in it: a technological veteran, a historical masterpiece we admire for they way it was build and taken through the skies.

I don't get it... noones protesting about the story of the trojan horse, but everytime old and current military planes are shown in a museum or an airshow, they come runnin' and complainin'.

I was there, too. Just got back last night, and haven't gotten the pics developed yet. The protesters were a pain. One of them decided to toss a glass container of red paint at the Enola Gay from the catwalk overlooking it, denting a bit of aluminum (aluminium to the rest of the English speaking world)and breaking on the floor below. As a result, the rest of us had to wait until almost 3:30 PM(opening was around 10:00 AM) before the catwalk was reopened to the public (under the careful scrutiny of the security staff). I couldn't get a closeup of the razorback Mustang until then.

But the place looked great, the displays were pretty well done, and other than the protesters, it was an enjoyable day. Bearcat, did you manage to get to the Food Court before they ran out of food? I think I got the next-to-last turkey sandwich.

Cheers

One of you guys should have manned the 50 cals to scare the protestors away! :P

I still don't think I understand though... Why protest the big old bomber?

Because they mistakenly blame Boeing/the Flight Crew for a decision made by the government.

they don't protest the plane being there, they protest the fact that the hiroshima bombing death toll is not mentioned. I think it should be mentioned too, those weren't toy planes after all. Facts on the table, then people can discuss.

hmmmm cool pics. I like the very first plane, Arado 234.... I want it. hehehe I wonder, would I be able to model an Arado 234 for FB or whatever in 3d max 6?

Anyway great pics. that 190 looks cool too as does the P-47. If only I had a few thousand dollars lying around I'd be there already
