View Full Version : Russian Invasion

06-03-2004, 02:37 PM
Interesting to contemplate, all those years I spent growing up, during the cold war era.
When the West was always at different stages of combat readiness for a mutualy assured destruction nuclear strike against the Soviet Union.
Hollywood even made a movie at one stage about a Russian Invasion of the USA (chuckle)

Who would have thought back then, that a Russian by the name of OLeg Maddox would one day lead a very successfull invasion of the West indeed.

Bump for Red Dawn (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0087985/), one of the worst movies ever. I love the bit with elite Cuban winter/mountain troops in Colorado.

I love Red dawn. Perhaps not for its realism or lack thereof, but for the spirit it portrayed.

Well at least Dark Blue didn't have some bogus **** where 2 people fit in a cramped cockpit made for one pe.....wait, it did do that didn't it?

Well at least it didn't have some cliche pilot with a speech impediment who was never the less a favori.......dang it. It did have one of those didn't it.

God, it was so simple and took me this long to figure it out. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Kozhedub: In combat potential, the Yak-3, La-7 and La-9 fighters were indisputably superior to the Bf-109s and Fw-190s. But, as they say, no matter how good the violin may be, much depends on the violinist. I always felt respect for an enemy pilot whose plane I failed to down.

I surrendered of my own free will the 1st time I saw Il-2 on the shelf just to what the heck that black monster on the box was.

Never regretted being "Liberated" from CFS

For the same period of the cold war - Soviets thought tha the Americans would invade any minute and nuke the country.

My favorite part of that whole flick was when the 4x4 over heated & they all had to pi$$ in the radiator to get the thing running again. lol

LOL http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/88.gif Yeah, the Cuban winter troops were a hoot!
Not to start anything, but what about the Four Iron Eagle flicks. I liked the Queen soundtrack in one of them. Course I liked the Highlander series, too.

My favorite scene of Red Dawn is when the Cuban general walks out into the street at night while a huey flies around shooting the **** out of everything. He is visibly angry and yells out demanding to know where the hell the air defenses are...and right behind him is a ZSU-23-4 AA vehicle slowly traversing it's turret - never firing a shot. (The set designers had no idea what the heck it was but thought it looked cool so they threw it in)
