Ya'll already know what I'm probably going to say. You use a Live! card (both of you, I'm sure), and they weren't exactly splitting technology. I'll more than likely say upgrade to an Audigy or better...

I had a SB PCI 512 sound card quite a while back (December). I got BF1942 for a Christmas present, so I installed it. I got into the game and I got the static you're talking about. I trouble shot and worked for at least a week talking to SB tech support, changing drivers, etc...But nothing worked. I just gave up and went to www.googlegear.com (http://www.googlegear.com) and purchased me a new SB Audgy card. It was around $90 then, but I believe its price has dropped to $60-$70 now.

The noise was solved, and everything works fine now. This may be the way for ya'll to go...

Yea, im building a new computer soon anyway, I was just wondering if anyone knew exactly why... I thought it was the card, but the thing that bothers me is why does the card work for EVERY other game? Does splinter cell use some sorta "super high quality digital augmented sound" or something rediculous like that? Ah well.

Yeah, pretty much. Like I said that old PCI 512 only did it on BF 1942. If you want to see if you can temporarly get rid of it, disable all eax and lower the sound hardware accelleration in your dxdiag. I doubt it'll help, but it's worth a try.

I think I fixed the problem. I went to www.soundblaster.com (http://www.soundblaster.com) and downloaded the newest drivers for my sound blaster live value..it was around 30 megs to DL and now Splinter Cell doesnt make that annoying static noise...and it acually helps with some lag issues http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif YAY http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gifnow I wont have to go deaf anymore.

Yeah, that's why I wanted your dxdiag. It would have told me the version # of your drivers, and from that information, I could have pieced together enough knowledge to recommend you update them. As for the other guy, he tells me that the game didn't load correctly in the first place, and all he did was reinstall it and that fixed it.
