The top image is Harry Bisher, who flew with the 20th. Fighter Group (their insignia is on his jacket). Note the polished oval area on the inside of the engine nacelle, this was so pilots could double check their gear in the reflection.

More on HARRY E. "ANGEL" BISHER - A native of Gladstone, Illinois, Harry E. Bisher joined the 55th. FS/20th.FG on 30 Sept., 1942. He was a flight commander from 31 Dec., 1942 through 3 February, 1943, when he was promoted to Assisatant Squadron Operations Officer. Unfortunately, on 4 March, 1944 he was listed MIA after losing an engine during a mission over Berlin and being "hacked" by an Me-109 over Belgium. He managed to evade capture, and along with Col. Montgomery (20th. Ftr. Grp. CO)escaped to Spain. Both men returned to the Group on 17 June 1944. Just over a month later Bisher was returned to the states. He remained in the Air Force and retired as a Lt. Col.
The aircraft may be "Kitty", P-38 serial number 42-67823, Squadron Code KI-N.

Oddly enough the top picture of the post you made at 18:42 is also a 20th. Ftr. Grp. pilot, Capt. Don Reihmer - a native of Elmhurst, Illinois,Reihmer was assigned to the 79th.FS/20th.FG on 5 August, 1943, but was transfered to the 77th.FS as their Squadron Operations Officer on 7 February 1944. He became acting Squadron C.O. on 18 June 1944, a position he maintained until he was forced to bail out of his plane over the Baltic Sea, after being hit by light flak on a strafing run on 4 August 1944. He evaded via Sweden and was returned to the Zone of Interior on 13 September 1944.

Those Sterlings are sure beautiful. I lived near Bitteswell airfield as a child in Lutterworth, Leicestershire, England. Sterlings were flown during WW2 from this site. Can only imagine what the skies looked like and sounded like due to the mass of these 4 engined beasts that were assembling overhead in preparation to raid Germany!!
