Kozhedub: In combat potential, the Yak-3, La-7 and La-9 fighters were indisputably superior to the Bf-109s and Fw-190s. But, as they say, no matter how good the violin may be, much depends on the violinist. I always felt respect for an enemy pilot whose plane I failed to down.

Surgical Strike on Dutch Central Population Registry at The Hague
April 11, 1944
The attack on the Gestapo head quarters in The Hague. In that raid a 5 story building was leveled by 3 "waves" of 2 aircraft, using incendiaries and high explosives, and destroying all records the Gestapo had collected over the years on resistance fighters and their families, and hiding addresses of jews.
On the 11th April 1944 Mosquitos of 2 group, 2nd tactical airforce flew to The Hague in Holland. Their target the Gestapo controlled Dutch Central Population Registry, which the Dutch Resistance had requested destroyed to prevent identification of false id. Papers. Armed with 500 lb incendiary/high explosive bombs, the three pairs of aircraft approached the target close to the Peace Palace. The second plane clearly saw the first's bombs skip through the front doors of the building. The target was totally destroyed and only one aircraft was slightly damaged.

Amiens Prison Break Out
Another famous attack was the break out of more than 250 prisoners in the prison of Amiens. The first bombers destroyed the guard houses, and following aircraft breached the walls to enable the men inside to break free. This remarkable feat was put in progress because the French Resistance had mentioned the planned execution of numerous resistance fighters.

Super!

Glad to see it coming together, sir!

Now, for those of you who are fretting about it in DF arenas (fretting seems to be a major pastime here http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif), I doubt you'll see it there much. It wasn't a day fighter and we don't have the radar for night fighting.

But as a high altitude fast bomber (same payload as a B-17) or an NOE hit and run ground/shipping attack plane, or a night intruder there is nothing better. The Mossie was the master of the sneak attack. Speed and stealth were what it was all about.

I commanded a Mossie squad in WarBirds and the whole point was to do the damage without ever being spotted...across the Channel at 40 feet and 400 mph. The whole trick was to stay below radar -- which we don't have in FB -- or so high and so fast no one could catch you) http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

But it's not a day fighter. If you expect that, you're going to be mighty disappointed.

REALLY glad to see it!

Looking forward to some rumbles over the Bay of Biscay with Ju-88 heavy fighters though!

A flyable mossie is very good news indeed!

Holy Moly - been away for the weekend and come back to this news! In- smegging-credibly good... I'm halfway through putting a Tamiya 1/48th together - may never finish if I get my hands on this before too long! Seriously though - fan-bloody-tastic effort chaps!

I absolutely cannot wait to take this beauty out on day ranger missions and coastal command mayhem! Now we just need fjords and heaven will have arrived! 8 weapons in the nose with no convergence to fret about and even I might hit something - tho I know it's no DF machine.

If we had a Beaufighter in the near future, I swear my life would be complete. Somewhere someone had a set of photos on the web of a set of beaus and mossies seriously spoiling a ships day! Think there were 14 of them from 2 squadrons simultaneously hitting it with 20mm and rockets. Looked like the poor things was in a jacuzzi!!!

Ball bearing run in unarmed BOAC mossie would be a mission seriously worthy of "Forgotten" battles too.

Well - get it'll still be weeks/months before we get our mits on it - still the patches from this game make it like having 4 birthdays a year...

Get the mossie, beau, tempest, typhoon, Mk I, XIV, XXII spits, A-36/mustang Mk IA and those missing Italian planes...throw in flyable B-25's and me and I'll bet a whole bunch of others will fork over another 30 or 40 bucks to fly them!

Yeah, what he said.
