Awesome. Looks like original color too, not retouched. Where'd you find it?

What plane is that? It looks different from the Oscar or Zero. Maybe its just me though ,or maybe I've never even seen it before :|

I don't want to burst anyones bubble but the photo is not what it seems. It is a colourized version of a famous photo of Shiden kai's taxiing out for take off. The aircraft have been cut out, tilted and super imposed on a sky background.
IIRC the photo comes from the book "Genda's Blade." A history of the 343rd Kokutai.

Indeed, although I thought it to be a "fake" from the word go, but its still a good job.

BTW, the new technology will make this kind of "fake" harder to spot.

Any of you know the series "Colour of War"?
According to the producers its all genuine WW2 color footage, but I have my doubt. Certainly a good part of the material is genuine, but some of it feels colored.

Still there is a lot in it to wet the appetite for PF, especially Vol. IV dealing with the Pacific.

For those with an interest I can highly recommend the series, those in Holland can get Vol. 1 to 4 at only Eur. 28,- (3x 5.99 and 1z 9.99) from the Free Record Shop - 10% discount if you carry a club card.

More than 10hrs footage total, incl. the complete "Memphis Belle" documentary as an extra.

Ruy Horta

EDIT:

In order not to disappoint, I'll list the features per DVD:

Volume 1: Original production, which most have seen on TV, 150 mins of WW2 color footage.

Volume 2: Follow up production, 200 mins of WW2 color footage - incl. as extra the full "Memphis Belle" documentary by Billy Wyler.

Volume 3: "America's War", 185 mins, incl. footage from Ford's Midway defense - although there are some "Hollywood-effects".

Volume 4: "Japan's War", 96 mins.

Some of the material is shocking btw, not to give to children without first checking if you consider the material acceptable at their age and stage of development.

For the Aerial minded there are some really nice bits and pieces.

Definitely faked, look at the elevators. With that much deflection, the aircraft should be climbing like crazy!

My dad was aboard the Yorktown (CV-10) when she first went to the Pacific, and he told me that there was a special color photo unit from Hollywood embarked to film combat in color. They even loaded the aircraft's gun cameras with color film! Most of the good color pictures/film of carrier combat ops in the Pacific that you see today, were taken aboard the Yorktown.

I spotted this fake as soon as I saw it. The elevators, and the planes are completely identical - complete giveaway. The numbers were even changed, but it was not enough to make this pass as real.

Sugaki's photo is of Naoshi "Kanno". Ace pilot of 343rd Kokutai and of whom I chose my call sign from when I was in the IJN343rd Kokutai squadron during CFS2. Nice pic. Thanks. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I've been had! I thought is was real, too. But now that I look at the elevators and the b/w picutre, there is no way.

Nice picture, though.

Damn.

They did look a little funny, I was wondering if it was colorized when I took a look at it in Photoshop. Something didn't seem right about it. That's too bad... So there's still only one vintage color photo of a George (11 or 21) that I know of.

That picture of the dead Easter bunny is a fake !

Thats not even a bunny - its a jackrabbit - and those were'nt Easter eggs - they were from an iguana! I've seen it a hundred times. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/35.gif... I suspect it was da Chimpster up to his old nefarious tricks again http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Speaking of old films being colored I have a 4DVD set of WW1 in color. That is very strange to watch. It gives a whole new perspective.

BTW, there IS an Easter Bunny and I've just set about 100 snares to settle the question. The only problem is, if I prove myself to be right, there will be no Easter Bunny next year. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

I dunno about the Easter Bunny picture should really be an iguana. When I was a kid we had dogs - not lizards. Somehow the story of the "Easter Iguana" just doesn't give me that warm, fuzzy feeling???
