Don't know why they wouldn't be. They were immensely important planes.

You'll get the plane list after E3. Until then please don't spend too much time theorizing on what's there and what's not - noone will be able to tell you one way or another http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

E3 is usually in late May or early June as I recall but I have no idea what it will be specifically this year.

I think the unofficial FAQ lists SB2C as a probable flyable. This is an interesting plane to me...despite the fact that the Dauntless was better liked by its pilots and the SB2C earned some bad nicknames I want to understand why that is....plus it packs a pair of M2 20mm cannons - who can argue with those! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

The LA convention ctr is only an hour or so from my front door... Oh I am crashing that joint.. So - Benny Hill - you gonna have that same kinda "talent" around you as you had in China?

BtW - what artwork did you submit?

^^^ E3 is not a public event, it's industry only - you gotta register, pay a hefty fee I believe, show ID when you show up and be given a badge without which you won't be allowed in.

VW-IceFire:
Every single plane is a potential flyable http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif The only reason anything is marked as that in the unofficial FAQ is because nothing has been currently confirmed as AI-only, except for the four-engine aircraft.

Also, if the plane is shown on that unofficial FAQ as Potentially Flyable, it doesn't mean it'll even ship as AI-only.

Probably this disclaimer should be displayed there, otherwise I'm afraid that instead of clearing up the frequently asked questions the FAQ will instead create confusion and unrealistic expectations that the product will not be able to meet.

But what about the word "unofficial" ... that works for me.

as long as it says that - I'm just looking at pretty pictures, nothing official-nothing certified.

and yes - thats why I said "crash" that joint..

I got a couple samoleans in the ol' cowhide here says I'm all up in there..

If you've got some friends at some gaming magazine they may be able to get you a pass as a freelance journalist, but other than that I guarantee you won't be able to "crash" the place. They've got subway-style turnstiles at the entrace with a guard at every one, and they check your badge.

When I was there last year I saw a LOT of people get sent off who tried to "crash" with various excuses.

Oh I understand completely. Having done alot of MOD work for different games before, I know what happens when you make promises or say something and people don't find out until after the product is played that something isn't there that you planned for before.

Just telling people who worry alot about whats going to be flyable that there is a possibility...there is always hope http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

So I did some searches with Google on this plane (I think it may be my prefered groundpounder if its flyable and when the game comes out) and found some interesting information:

http://www.acepilots.com/planes/helldiver.html

Also has a reply from a veteran Helldiver pilot who dispells some of the bad reputation that the plane picked up.

Here's some great summary information as well:

"The Curtiss Helldiver, despite a reputation for being difficult to handle at low speeds, was responsible for the destruction of more Japanese targets than any other aircraft. The Curtiss SB2C single-engine dive-bomber joined the fleet late in 1943, joining the Douglas Dauntless as the primary attack/bombing planes for the US Navy. The two-man Helldiver had a top speed of 295 mph and good range, making it an essential tool in the far reaches of the Pacific war.
With underwing and bomb attachments, the Helldiver could carry 1,000 pounds of bombs or an internal torpedo; later improvements included an uprated Wright Cyclone engine and rocket hardpoints. It carried two fixed forward 20mm cannon and machine guns in the rear cockpit.

Only 26 of the 7,000 Helldivers built found their way to the other services; the plane was so valuable in the Pacific theater that the Navy absorbed nearly every plane. Postwar, the Helldiver found further use with the French, Italian, Greek and Portuguese Navies and the Royal Thai Air Force. Only one airworthy Helldiver remains -- with the Commemorative Air Force in Texas -- but at least one more is under restoration to airworthy status."

When I flew it back in the days of Aces of the Pacific I never realized how versatile it was in terms of armament. Aces never allowed for the Torpedo armament and I can't remember if it was allowed to carry rockets in that game either. And the rear gunner on the plane never worked in that game either...so I look forward to the new Pacific Fighters http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Since the press release said "Iwo Jima" in one of its locations, late war planes, especially US ones will probably be in the game. Wouldn't make sense to have SBD's still flying around.

I'm hoping for the Suisei and Ryuseikai though ...don't see those planes that often.
