Got a TrackIR2 delivered yesterday, set up last night, within 10 minutes was producing huge grins. Another couple of minutes and I'd shot down my first opponent (offline admittedly) using it. Brilliant, and will only get better as I train myself to use it.

Anyway, thanks to all who have posted on TrackIR and particularly those sharing info on profiles, and balls http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif (I used a hollow plastic one on a length of dowel).

Special commendations to;
T_O_A_D for instructions and profile, used straightaway and worked wonders.
Alexi_Alx_Anova for pointing me at the new drivers on the day I got the TrackIR!

If you've got this far, just one question. Can I assign 'Re-center' to a joystick button? Manual says you can't do it directly...

Good in't it? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

To assign re-center to your joystick you'll have to use some sotr of joystick button programmer software - depends what stick you've got. I've got an MS stick and the sidewinder software with it works great.

These new drivers definitely seem to make the whole thing more adjustable, not sure I've quite found my 'sweet-spot' yet though...

Glad to hear you're well on your way to TrackIR nirvana.

And you WILL find the more you use it, the more intuitive it becomes and the harder it'll be to fly without it. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

Once you get used to it, you won't need re-center key that much.
I press it just once when I take off. so I assigned it to 'Scroll Lock' key. (One that I never use most of the time.)

Anyway you can assign re-center to joystick with joystick profile program.(stick maker provides it) Make one button functions like key in profile and assign the key for re-center in TIR program.

TIR is a MUST in sim like stick was 5 years ago. Even at that time, some boys argued they don't need joystick. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/59.gif

Also, I use headphones with a microphone attached for teamspeak. Would attaching the reflective dots to the front of the mic be a good idea??

Yes, but depending on how far away from the receiver your dot is you will get more accuracy using a boom extension on the top of the headset to get it closer. Otherwise it may be more convenient to put the dots on the mic itself. Best distance is about 16" inches in between or have the dot track from one side of the screen to the other as far as possible (on the tracking tab) when turning your head side-to-side comfortably.

The closer the dot is to my head, the better for me - not as sensitive and twitchy. I sit about 2' away from the sensor.

Interesting Slammin_, I kind of found the same thing so have been shortening the dowel, bringing the ball back closer to my head. Otherwise it is twitchy, and I also seem to get fairly bad breakup of cockpit side details as I pan round quickly. Is this a FPS thing, frequency of TrackIR vs screen refresh rate or something else?
I'm using T_O_A_D's deadzone profile, which was done with the earlier drivers, so maybe I should do a new one...
Thanks everyone for advice on joystick mapping, just downloaded Thrustmapper 4.02.

TrackIR and Now TRACKIR2 are the ONLY Two reasons I kept playing IL2.

Im from an FPS Kill everything background and more recently (2001 onwards) , Tactical FPS EG: Ghost Recon, Operation Flashpoint etc.

Then I got interested in IL2 - I WANTED to love the game to death BUT the whole POV Method and Target Locking Methods just had me scratching my head.

Then came along naturalpoint and their toys - I
Instantly knew this was THE missing link, THE thing that turned me from walking away from IL2 to requiring therepy just to leave it alone for 5 Minutes.
After spending some time setting it up initially, it took all of 5 Seconds to get used to it.

To me playing a Flight Sim without TrackIR is like Playing an FPS without a Mouse (Remember the Keyboard only FPS Days? -- Duke Nukem)

You need to make sure "Wait for verticle sync" is enabled in your gfx configuration, otherwise you will get a visual tearing effect when panning.

Spot on Slammin_. I've got it turned off, will try it switched on later when I get the chance.
Many thanks.

TIR2 is easily THE most immersive accessory one can purchase for flight simming. I agree totally that it is to flight sims what the mouse is to FPS games. I too thought I'd send it back after mixed results in LOMAC. But once I tried it with a good profile in FB there was no turning back. I'm not saying that using joystick hat or mouse isn't as good, but that TIR is THE most intuitive (easy) way to pan your view. Makes flying in pit a joy.

Yes. Shut the door when you play and make sure you don't go to work with a dot on your forehead. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Great glad to be of service! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif
But yes by all means get out the manual and make a new profile for your TIR2 Mine can be improved on when using TIR2 I'm sure. My profile is nothing more than the stock deadzone example TIR explains how to make in the manual. Increasing the the deadzone will make it easier to aim, if you have alot of head movment when playing. If I'm having trouble hitting. I will hold the center button down, to force me to look straight away, with a button on my joystick. Had to use the saitek profiler to accomplish this. It all depends on the stick you own, and what you can do with it.
