Sorry if this is old hat, but i just found the Blohm und Voss P.170. It was designed in 1942, but never flew. Still interesting though- would make a good Luftwaffe 46 aircraft. Have a look at luft46.com (http://www.luft46.com/bv/bvp170.html)
It looks like something out of Star Wars! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif
PS. Looks like Bolhm und Voss were responsible for some very strange aircraft- just looked at the luft46.com website.

The FWTA238 is just as impressive- have a look at The FWTA283 (http://www.luft46.com/fw/fwta283.html). Its really amazing some of the ideas the German engineers came up with:
for example The Weserflug P.1003/1 (http://www.luft46.com/misc/wes1003.html) looks very similar to the V22- the new helicopter/plane.
Theres also info on the ME109TL (http://www.luft46.com/mess/me109tl.html)- a jet engine powered version of the ME109. Very interesting- and a bit bizzare!

You know what would be awesome? If some people actually invested money into building planes like this to see how they acually flew and stuff.. I'd love to see how well these "fantasy" planes fared and perhaps see 'em in real life http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif.

That would be really good- very expensive but definately worth it. I'm not sure how well theyd fly though- some of those planes really look a bit unlikely- I guess its a change from the norm. I find it simply amazing the sheer numbers of unique designs were created by the Germans in such a short time (5 years or so.)

BV was know for unorthodox planes...

One of my favorites- the BV 141 it lost the competation vs the FW189 which is included in FB.

That is an amazing plane! I thought the Fw189 looked a bit odd, but that is just fascinating! My question is: why was the cockpit/cabin seperate from the main fuselage? Was there a good reason for this? I've noticed it on a few other German designs.

You don't think that is coincidental, do you?

George Lucas was VERY inspired by WWII when he made Star Wars.

BTW, the BV 141 actually flew, and it flew very well.

My guess is from the perspective of the P-38 improved all around view, more powerful inline engine due to better interconnection of engine components and more manueverability due to reduced forward center of gravity.
