Fork Tailed Devils
Campaign For Forgotten Battles with "Aces Expansion Pack"

Mini Campaign featuring 10 missions for the P-38 Lightning.

Installation instructions:
Unzip files folder into \Forgotten Battles\Missions\Campaign\US\
(it should look something like this; \Forgotten Battles\Missions\Campaign\US\Fork_Tailed_Devils)

*****IMPORTANT*****
If you do not already have a 'US' folder located under 'Campaign', then create one and unzip the 'US Medals and Ranks.zip' file into the folder. Otherwise, discard the zip file.
*****IMPORTANT*****

"After spending 26 months defending the Aleutian Island chain against Japanese attacks, your squadron is transferred from the 54th Pursuit Squadron to the 55th Fighter Group in England. The D-day invasion into northern France is in its final days of preparation. The experience of your group will be put to good use once the invasion begins. This a 10 mission mini-campaign based loosely on events that occurred during the first few weeks of the Normandy invasion. The campaign ends just before your squadron changes over to P-51 Mustangs. Historically, the 55th flew its last P-38 Lightning mission on July 21st, 1944."

Due to the lack of English bases during the early missions, it is recommended to have the "No Instant Success" option under 'Difficulty' checked to the off position.

I've done exactly what is stated in the Read Me. However, I see no "Fork Tailed Devils" campaign under USA. I have the Real Deal and USAF fighter...but this one doesnt show up.

Any suggestions?

THanks

Make sure you have "Use file names" checked in Winzip.
Also the info.properties file had no file path attached so you will have to manually move it to the Fork Tailed Devils file under Campaigns/US.
It worked fine for me after I moved the info file.

Thanks Raz_Bama... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif Welcome to the club.

Make sure that a copy of properties.inf goes into the "forked Tail Devils" folder. I had the same problem, and when I looked in the folder it was missing, even after selecting "unzip all files" . I put it in there manually, and was in the air.

Good Luck (And after having flown the first mission, you are in for a treat, folks http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif)

Speaking of missions Tsisqua, I finished the Ace in a Day mission that duplicates Yeagers flight over Germany where he shot down 5 109s.

http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/784.gif My CPU had a melt down yesterday and I have not been able to test it.

Since it was your idea, if you want to try it for me & let me know if it has any problems send me a PM. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Download the USAAF campaign folder by Extreme_one here;

http://www.netwings.org/library/Forgotten_Battles/Missions/index-10.html

When you install it, you will have the US folder with medals & all.

You may have noticed in the read me file also that if you install the medals from the other zip file included with "use file names" checked, you will have the same file structure created for you in the FB directory.

Having trouble finding this installed...after I created a new folder in /Campaigns?US/named fork_tailed_Devils & unzipped everything into it,but when I try to use it in game there isn't anything indicating its there. Its not a self install...what have I done wrong?

I've created a self extracting .exe file with the campaign. It does have the medals and ranks included and will not overwrite files already present. If anyone has any more problems with installing or running the campaign, then please let me here.

Thanks for the warm welcoming I've received from a few of you here. Tsisqua, this is the only nickname I have here. Some here may recognize me as one of the moderators over at the SimHQ forum under the callsign -=Raz=- .

I'd love to hear anyone's feedback on the campaign.

A double round of thanks1 First for taking the time to do this p-38 campaign - the only disappointment from the Aces Expansion Pack ( & for that matter the Battle over Europe ) is that so very few individual missions & campaigns for the new a/c were included...so thanks for your efforts. Then secocond thanks for making this campaign a self instal after I'd screwed around with it yeasterday with no success.I just downloaded it & self extraction seemed to work just fine...Now all I've got to do is warm up the game & get flying!

Raz_Bama:

Thank you very much for your P-38 'Fork Tailed Devils' mini-campaign. Loves it.

Your 'self extracting .exe' repack did the trick. Perfect install.

Thanks for the kind comments everyone. I too found the lack of missions and campaigns on some of the planes included with AEP somewhat dissappointing. But I guess that's where the community jumps in. I was glad to offer something to FB as I've been a fan of the series since the IL-2 demo days.

As I mentioned over at SimHQ, my system is an AMD XP 2200 with an ATI 9800 pro which I thought was an 'average' system by today's standards. HammFist over on SimHQ said that he had to play the first two missions with the B17 formations at half speed. He also went on to say that all the missions following the first two ran perfectly fine on his rig.

Sometime this week I'll release a 'Fork Tailed Devils Lite' which will have the first two missions tweaked down a little for those with systems that get choked with the original.

sopwithkennel, glad to hear you had fun with the ground missions. I tried to give the campaign a good balance of different missions.

Also, my apologies to those who pulled their hair out trying to install via the zip file. I have a registered version of WinZip and I suppose something got lost with the translation decompressing with other software. For here on out, I'm releasing self extracting .exes!

Also, I plan to make other campaigns in areas that as far as I know have not been explored.

Here's the 'Lite Version' of the campaign as promised for anyone who had problems with the first couple of missions clogging their systems.

Anyone finish the original yet? What were your ground and air scores?

Raz_Bama, thanks for a great campaign. The tweaks in the "Lite" version has made the B17 missions much more playable on my middle of the road system.

Hope to see more of your hard work around here

Cheers
