Ace's Expansion - what exactly are we going to get that we don't have already.

Here is the features list from Amazon.com
Features:

27 new flyable aircraft - OK,I've read the list
3 new map areas of Finland, Hungary, and Ukraine/Poland Got this in 1.21 or 1.22
20 new single-player missions and 10 new multiplayer missions Just missions not a biggy
New maps dedicated to multiplayer We've got these already
A new dynamic campaign system So More dumb things the computer creates to waste our time
Multiplayer up to 32 players featuring dog-fighting and cooperative-style play - I'm Offline player doesn't mean much
New and improved AI, plus new vehicles and ground objects - I think a good explanation might help with this.
Scalable difficulty for players of all skill levels So what the heck does this mean. We already have Ace, Veteran, Average, and Rookie, do we now get ultra-newbie
New special effects, including searchlights -We got searchlights in FB 1.0, maybe this needs some explanation
Improved flight dynamics for added realism
Now this really means absolutely nothing without some explanation

Before you blow your gaskets...All I'm asking for is some solid verbal explanations of what all the so-called new features are or what they'll do for us.

Effectively...I want to know something, before I order something http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

If you are that concerned about it and seeing that we don't get much official info here very often, why not just have alittle patience and let the users review it before you buy? YOu'll get alot more opinions and even some useful info that way.

BTW I agree it is a little silly not to have more explanation about what additional specific things are in a addon that one is expected to preorder. My reaction - don't preorder, unless I get more info, or just wait till others get it and have a chance to comment on it.

Truthfully I will buy this anyway because of the assured quality and standing of 1CM, but this approach has saved me a little money in the past with other sims that will remain nameless.

I think you got the wrong list from somewhere thats the IL2 FB list:

This is the aces list from ubi

"20 new flyable aircraft, including the American P-51 series, P-38, and YP-80; the German Me-163B, Ta-152H-1, Mistel, and Ho-229; the Italian Fiat G.50; and Japanese Ki-84 and A6 Zero.
7 non-flyable AI aircraft, including the Finnish Gloster Gladiators and Hawk 75, Italian Fiat CR.42, the American B-17, and the German V-1 rocket.
3 pristine environments - Ardennes, Normandy, and a special Pacific online map.
Completely revamped AI, including original, 3D-modeled ground objects for each new map area.
7 immersive dynamic campaigns, using Forgotten Battles maps.
Innovative ranking and award campaign system.
20 edge-of-your-seat single-player missions, using new and existing maps.
10 cooperative multiplayer missions, using new and existing maps."

Ok so don't buy it... whats your point?

I will buy it just to fly the Lightning.
After that, I want to see if there are really any new "pristine" maps for the Pacific.
Maybe more inspiration for missions to build??? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

The question is why do we have to pay for it this time instead of it being a free patch. I think it would be so Oleg and crew can pay the mortgage and have somewhere to go home to when they finish working on our favorite diversion.(Well...maybe second favorite.) http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Good point...I forgot how much I've always enjoyed the P-38. Not much way to really build late war missions without the P-38, and the B25...that is allowing for what we already have.

I'd still like to read a good explanation about the add-on features. I don't think that is too much to ask. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

That's what every consumer wants.

You've read the press release, and you still have questions.

Unfortunately, until it's reveiwed by someone, all we can do is wait, just like with any other consumer product.

As far as paying for it goes...
Bird brain-

Why shouldn't I pay for it, exactly? I am not in the habit of giving my work time away for free, myself. Why should Oleg and Co. be an different? This is an add-on, not a patch- a patch 'patches' a problem. Problems may be fixed in the update, but it is not a product you are asked to purchase because it fixes anything, you are asked to pay because it has new content.

Free on-line addons are great surprises but they have spoiled game players. 1C Maddox deserves payment for their products.

Don't be so hard on yourself. I did pick up on the sarcasm. LOL

I was only trying to "smoke out some information" from someone that knows anything additional about the add-on. There are some lurkers/posters on these boards that are not as in the dark as the rest of us.

Buying it guarantees (one would hope) continued support and improvements to FB... which can only be a good thing and I think is worth the money just for that.

In the end, does it really matter what AEP actually does? as long as it does _something_ and keeps the freshness and interest in the game.

I like freshness

For some, it's a matter of confidence. In the past, this organization has delivered several products -- Il2, Il2/FB, no-charge add-on -- that exceeded expectations (or upgraded with no-fee patches). If that's true, why can't they be trusted to deliver another add-on with the same level of imagination and quality?

From Nearmiss's post-count and registration date, he has more experience with this sim than many. I suspect he's just as frustrated as the rest of us at the limited leaks this time. Apparently Oleg threatened the betas with dire consequences if they spilled any information. What do you think?

You've made a good point.

I don't think it's out of line to ask for additional information. I don't feel I'm betraying anyone. I can certainly wait for information to become available, but I did see Thunak's posting about placing orders now in a sticky.

UK- Aces Expansion pre-orders open!

So...I think it's not inappropriate to ask for clarification in a few areas. It's not ragging on anyone. It's asking...buying questions.

Typically pres-releases and company verbage has very little information. Its up to product reviewers to give the real scoop. I hope there are reviews being worked up from some of the bigger web pages and mags soon. Maybe early next month we will see a preview or something on Netwings. I have been asking to do one but its up to Ubi to give permission to do that, not Oleg. If Ubi is off the ball, then we may not get any previews.

I thought we were gettin a version of the spitfire in this addon???

VW-IceFire
02-20-2004, 06:50 PM
We ARE getting a Spitfire Mark V in the addon. The recent development updates should have quashed any rumors that it wouldn't make it.

The information above is for Fogotten Battles...not for the Ace Expansion Pack. There is no final definitive, all in one, source for information on AEP. Just bits all over the place...but anyone should be able to go back through the last 5-6 Dev. Updates and see what we're getting. Lots of cool stuff...

I think the fact that the Allied plane lovers are getting a P-38 and a Spitfire, and those of us who prefer the Luftwaffe lineup are getting a Bf-110 and Ta-152 is worth the $$

Not to mention a couple of new biplanes to barnstorm around the skies in. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I don't really care about the new missions or campaigns.. I just can't wait to ground pound in a Me110, and putter around in a Go229.
