Is there no way that AI aircraft under your command will take on Bombers head on?

After arming up my squad in Fw 190 A8 with mk 103's and taking on B17's I notice even on ace level nobody will do a frontal attack on the heavies??

When its fighter v fighter you sometimes get head on attacks??

Is there a way to change this? Or does this mean my fellow AI pilots are chickens!! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/52.gif

Cheers

I've never seen fighters attacking bombers head-on, although this tactics was adopted by, at least, Zero pilots attacking B-17 as much safer way to bring them down.

well, with a human flying ... head on from below is one of the most effective ways of damaging a B17 without taking too many hits yourself

but from what i notice the AI always wants to swoop from the six with bombers

in fact if you have chased bombers too far from the set course into enemy territory telling AI to attack bombers usually has them scarpering for home -- even if you have led them within 300 metres of the bomber stream

It was used by the LW, thats why the B17G had a chin turret added.

http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif I found that by ordering your AI's to cover you... then go into the attack yourself and then tell them to attack your target. They will generally follow your lead. But not allways.
But they seem to do better in what their are ordered to do since the last Update though.

Reminds me of X-wing http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif So do all your wingmen attack the same target or will they attack different targets?

This the way I take bombers when flying 190s. Much easier than from 12 o´clock high. I wonder why they prefered the latter in RL http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif .

HangerQueen... I find that once the target is destoryed and I'm going after others... I use the Target all command and they will attack different targets. That is my squadron AI mates.
Sometime when the AI are heading home and won't attack... I have the call the base for Help and they will come back after the target I'm attacking.
But since the last Patch they seem to obey the command you give them better.
One thing though is... a AI aircraft has to have ammo that will destroy a target... before it will atttack.
You just can't have a aircraft just attack a ship for example with machine guns. It has to have ammo that will sunk a ship before it attacks.
Good Luckhttp://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif
