Saw a gentleman around fifty looking at the (gag) MS flight sims in Best Buy today. I went right up to him and gave him the address of this website. He said he was an actual Cessna pilot and was ready to upgrade from flight simulator 98 (puke!) I think. He said he had a 2.4ghz p4 system so I told him to wait a few days and he would be able to buy the best flight sim ever sold to the public, that completely blow away tha MS sims. After he seemed interested I let him out of the headlock.

Actually though, he said he liked his MS sim because it let him fly a plane similiar to what he flew in real life, on airstrips he had actually flew to and from. Couldn't argue that.

And he thought the military sims were mainly for gaming purposes. I just told him I had the MS combat sim2 that was out in what 2001 or 2002?, and that whenever I went back and tried it after flying the il2 sims for these last few years that the realism and flight models of the MS sim was laughable.

Even when i go back and fly the old Il2 1.2 which i still have it is really something how different the models are on the same planes.

So anyway he said he would check out the website and e-mail me after he did. I figure getting him here would cinch the sale.

LOL.. I've done the same thing http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I bet I have sold at least three copies of this sim whilst hanging out at best buy or EB...

The trick is to not get over enthusiastic or sometimes people kinda freak and call security on you...

I think that's why Jumo had him in the headlock...so he couldn't call security.

Jumo: if he insisted on the MS, would you have done him the favour and switched from headlock to sleeper hold? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

If he was looking to practice procedures on a Cessna 152/172 then steering him to IL2 will disappoint him. Combat sim, yep, hands down IL2 rocks but for learning how to fly fix to fix or shoot an ILS approach with intermittent radio failures or navigate via NDBs only you can't beat MS2004.

I love using 2004 to pre-fly a new airport I've not seen before. Especially if I'm going to get there at night...

Yup. I bought MS2004 for the reason that I can actually fly around where I live from the same strip I take off from. Got hooked up with a very nice very emil entranced OKL pilot who gave me the Cessna 152. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I did the same with an X45 at Best Buy around Christmas. An older woman saw me looking at joysticks and asked me if I knew which one she should buy for her husband. Lucky she had me there to show her the way to the promised land. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

I rather hoped last Friday that Breast Buy would have a CH product on display so I could give it a looky/feely kinda thing. Surprise, surprise, surprise, no CH products in the store. I found all the stcks they had on sale to be even junkier than the Logitec Farce Feedback stick that just gave out on me. Wow, what a drop in quality in just 14 months!

Some guy my age (old fart) was looking at Cousin Billy's flight simulation games and I told him about IL-2 FB and the upcoming ACE expansion pack. He thanked me and left the store without contributing to the payments on Cousin Billy's Fantasy Island. Then the game department clerk turned to me and said, "Sir, we must ask you not to promote products we don't currently carry or you'll be asked to leave the store". I looked at the goatie faced putts and considered shaving off the right side of his cool, pre-pubessant fuzz. Then I remembered there's no right to cable internet service at the local county jail! I'ts not like I was standing on a soap box and preaching to a crowd. I'll never go back to that or any other Breast Buy store (bye Luckyboy, don't let the door kick you in the *ss!).

Yeah Luckyboy1 "Breast" Buy doesn't have a decent selection any longer of the real controllers us more demanding sim'rs require. I've gotten all of my CH stuff here: http://www.flightsimcentral.com

Their service is A+ and Paula there usually tells me the best/fastest/cheapest way to ship at the time (sometimes it's different)

Good luck

http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/88.gif I do that all the time as I work at Best Buy..... but I used to do it anyway before I started there.. thats how I came to IL2..... I was looking for CFS3..I had pre ordered it but I just waned to see the box...LOL... and I ran into a guy named Phil that I havent seen or heard from since...... I even bring a CD with some movies....Requium, Salvation, Retribution, Prophecy and a few others... I come to work and load them up on the Emachine with the 64 in it and the 19" monitor and the 5.1 speakers.... I also have a flash drive full of screenshots and other stuff... not only does it show customers the features of these products but it shows them the beauty of FB... By far Salvation is the hands down favorite so far. I have directed so many people here I cant remember...

Good Job, CFS3 was the crap, but that wasn't what he was looking for. I love FS2004, nothing else like it. I've learned more about flying from the MS FLight Sim series than any other flight sim. You can't compare FS2004 with IL2 FB as a general aviation sim, there is no comparison and vice versa.

Correct. For a Private Pilot, or someone into General/ Civil Aviation, very hard to beat MS2004. I find the flight models feel less real than FB, and it's not as pretty, but for the serious General Aviation pilot that's not such a big deal. The accuracy and scope of the weather model, navigation & ATC systems, and the sheer scope of the environment, are unsurpassed.

Agree. Just bought FS2004 myself and it is a very fine flight simulator with a different focus and different aims from FB. It's strange - I already had FS2002 and although FS2004 is not really that different, it has a much better 'feel' that I can't properly quantify.

So for general flight simming, go with FS2004 - for combat simming, FB. Then you cannot go wrong, in my opinion!

I love all kinds of flight sims, right now on my hard drive I have(in no particular order):

Falcon 4 SP4+BMS
IL2/FB
FS2004
LOMAC

I play LOMAC less than any of the others, the rest split time. I pretty much only play FB online, it is by far the best online game that I own. I have spent more money on FS2004 than I care to mention. My point is money. The more we spend the better the product we will get. Granted, I will not buy CFS4, nor will i purchase a LOMAC add on unless something changes.
