I've read a preview about this game. This game has 2 types of gameplay, the sword fighting and the gunship battle (if I remember it correctly) with the emphasize to the latter. But it is not to say that you don't have freedom to wandering around towns and ports. There's also an option to upgrade your ship (with stronger cannon, or some yadda yadda thingie). And no, even though it is made by thye very same Bethesda, you still won't get the same freedom as that of Morrowind since the game emphasizes in its gunship battle.

that reminds me em. There's a Pirate mod in the works for Battle Field 1942.

It looks promising but I'd hate to be cramped in a ship for the entire game.

it's not like that you'd be at the ship for the entire game. You will still be able to wander around the town, the port doing lots of side (or main?) quests there. But only the freedom when you're at the ground is not as vast as that of Morrowind (though it's not necesarilly a big deal since this game is different with Morrowind). The graphics are also beautiful. The water effects are about the best in any games (yeah, even when it's compared with the likes of Far Cry, BC and Fable, it still can hold its candy).

Dang, the first review of this game suggests that this game is for a more patient gamer. The review also suggests that travelling around the sea while being the emphasize of the game is really hard (even when it's set to the "arcade" mode). We'll have to deal with the wind condition, cannon ammunition or even the storm. The swordcombat can also be pretty lame, with the repetiton of block/dodge/slash repetition with gunshot once in a while. Though the freedom while you're in town is also really great (they say that you can almost do whatever you want to do), like going to tavern for getting new gossip or hiring a crew member, and hell yeah, bet you can do looting also. Anyway, I may need to wait for other reviews to come out before making the final judgement of getting this game.

I've got this game, and so far, my impression is a mixed bag.

The controller is abit awkward, it doesn't use the ordinary controller scheme (at the PC version). Instead of implementing the ASDW interface, you use the left click to move forward and the mouse to scroll around changing the direction on which you face. Strange, ain't it? The bad thing is there are no strafe buttons.

The land fighting as the other review's stated is a combination between the block, dodge and attack buttons. If you press the attack button, you will -well...- attack your enemy. The dodge button is used to slightly jump backward. And the block button as the name is to block. The fighting is also punctuated with the gunshot, and every gun has an unlimited ammo (...but it takes almost forever to be reloaded) Well, honestly, I quite like the figthing scheme, while on the other hand, the ship battle is really hard. Frankly speaking, I ain't even known what to do when fighting another ship since my ship is really crappy. There is also this "going away from the storm" mode. If you happen to encounter the storm, the screen will change like the ship battle. Then, you will get to do something in order to prevent your ship to sink. It takes getting used to it, I just have to play more (as I can't find any guides on the internet).

Also sometimes, the game suffers from "what to do next" attitude. In this game, I'm easily getting lost not knowing where to go or what to do. The freedom while not as great as that of Morrowind is really vast. You basically can do almost anything in the town or go to every island using your ship. Though in the town, majority of houses are locked reducing the possibility of getting the free "treasure". There's also no linear way to finish a quest, the possibility is simply endless.

The graphics are wonderful. They're really Morrowind like, but more colorful, much more colorful. The texture department is awesome. As many other millions have said, the water & weather effects can be said as one if not the best on any games. It also runs really smooth on my GF4 4400 and P4 2.4 GHz (a mediocre machine) at 2AF & no AA with 1024 * 768 and maximum texture quality. It is clearly better looking than Morrowind.

The thing that I most like is the music. As a really big fan of the other Caribbean series (Monkey Island series), I really like the music. It really captures Caribbean atmostphere as though reminding me of those of (though still not as good) Monkey Island. The bottom line is the music is really good, but it can be repetitive after playing it for the whole night...

Having finished this game, I would have to say that this game is really awesome. The high learning curve and a really tough difficulty at the beggining of the game becomes really easy when it draws near the ending. When you've got enough money to buy 4 battleships, nobody will be able to beat you in the sea (well, providing you've got good officers captaining your ships). I wouldn't say much about the ending except that it's really weird, it seems to leave a lot of plothole unexplained.

My suggestion for everybody planning on getting this game, but still covered by doubt, is to go and get it (or at least, rent it). Ignore on what people say, this game is not for everybody. But if you put lots of interests in the game, you'll like it, sooner or later. At the first time (at least, it happens for me), you will think that you've bought a wrong game, but as the time passes and you've got used to it, you will love it, guarantee! Anyway, there's also a free ticket for watching the movie.

Last but not least, we've heard lots of people stating about the bug. So many bugs are in this game as though it's safe enough to label it as "The Legendary Bugs". If you are getting the game, aware of these things, though honestly, not even once has the bug ever bothered me.

I know that. Some people from this forum has said that, but I ain't watched it yet (I was too busy beating the game so that I've even forgotten to use the free ticket bundled with the game). I really want to watch the movie; Is this movie better than Terminator 3 or Reloaded? The adverisement sounds as though this movie is the best in this summer.
