Photoshop for bitmap editing, Illustrator/flash for scalable vectors.

Trouble is the cost of these two can be prohibitive.

Like they said, Photoshop is much harder to learn whereas you can figure out things in PSP fairly easy. PSP ruined it for me with version 8 by redoing the program to look more like Photoshop so I still use 7 most of the time because I know where everything is already.

I think Adobe Elements 2 or something like that is the more affordable solution and has a lot of the same features as Photoshop 7, unless you can write it off on your taxes as a business expense (company logo's, ect...http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif) I too like to use them both on the same picture.

Paintshop Pro 7 for me.
I do all my artwork wth it with no problems whatsoever.

I also have Photoshop 7, nut i hardly ever use it, maybe for the ocasional filter, but thats it.
The interface is ridiculous.
