Hey, guys. Like last E3, I was able to round up someone for a Q&A podcast, Code of Honor, to speak about their experience with the game.

Dead1y-Derri was fortunate enough to be among the 4 fans who got to play a match against the devs, Q&A Jason and Bio-Jade, and took and German Longsword seminar. If you have any questions you'd like him to answer, whether it be about the game or his fan experience, please leave a post.

And, if you missed my last Q&A podcast, here it is. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0d8plBv7YX4

Should be another cool episode. My question is: Are you more excited for the game more now that you played what you did?

Thanks for being such a good channel of information again, Fatal.

I apologize for continuing to ask this, but:

Any clues about how to perform good parries against strong attacks?

Not many people are interested in this, I guess. =P

I was gonna say it's natural for forums to cooldown for a while form time to time, specially when there is scarcity of new info. But then I remembered we had Gamescom not so long ago and it featured many new gameplay videos with lots of juicy info. So it really is weird that the forums are so quiet lately. Hopefully they bring some new soon, to drive people back in here. Beta release, new trailer, perhaps with a new class. Any of this would be great.

As for the new info being discussed, this thread (you started) has been very informative:

Given our discussion in the other thread, wouldn't a more appropriate question be: 'How do parries work, exactly?'

I wouldn't say they provided 'lots of juicy info'. It was the same map, only one of the two factions, and the same class we've already seen. It was great to see real matches, sure, but most of the 'new' stuff I feel could have been gleaned from previous videos (except the info on what the first Feat you get does). Maybe if the flail class was present, or there was a playable Viking class there, there would be something to ask about, but as it is, with the information we have, there really isn't a lot to ask about. Most of the new threads are suggestion about what they'd like in the game, rather than commenting on what's actually there (which is fine, it's just the nature of having so little to go on).

I came up with a question soon after the last Q&A, but for the life of me, I don't remember what it was now.

I think it was about the Feats, like what the initial one does (which was answered in the latest round of videos), or what the Samurai one's were (specifically the skull-and-crossbones one), but since I guess they weren't playable (judging by the other vids from Gamescom) there's little chance that can be answered.

I would like to know if you can turn off the UI/HUD, how extensive the menu/UI customisation and key/button rebindings are; that sort of stuff.

(I don't remember if that was in the other Q&A; apologies if it was:p)

Hey folks,

The podcast is being done on Monday the 31 August. I know its quite late but Fatal Feit had internet troubles last week and this week we decided to wait a little more to see if we get more questions and stuff. MisterWillow I understand where you're coming and its true that most of the information we gleamed from Gamescom was already in the public domain. However I did manage to get a lot of insight from what the developers themselves about the game and their vision for the game which hasn't necessarily been said in many of the videos. Even the most recent ones. I also got to ask questions to Jason and Bio-Jade and while some of them they couldn't talk about e.g. The campaign but we did get some answers that weren't exactly widely available.

So I understand where you're coming from.

That would give room for a general and possibily generic answer. I'd rather ask about the deflections, specifically.

How do you perform deflections? Is there a specific input for it? By deflections I mean those parries where the Warden holds the blade of the sword with one of the hands, locks swords for a brief momment, than shrugs the enemy's sword to the side. A dude does some of these on 0:45 of this video:

Isn't that just what a parry looks like?

EDIT: Am having a concurrent conversation concerning this in another thread (http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/1243078-For-Honor-Dual-Gameplay-Commentaries?p=10964859&viewfull=1#post10964859) (aforementioned), and the following is copy/pasted from there

I thought there were only blocks and parries, but the blocks for light attacks stopped a follow-up by deflecting the weapon away (but wasn't certain, hence, the portion you bolded) and the blocks for heavy attacks allowed for a follow up by staggering the defender (owing to the power behind the blow), whereas parries stopping everything, shirking the attacker's weapon away, and throwing the attacker off-balance, leaving an opening for a counterattack.

I would say that you're reading too much into the animations and over-complicating the combat, but maybe I'm just missing something. :nonchalance:

(apologies for the poor quality; taken, in order, from HERE (https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=154&v=PaWZw0UTLwA) at 2:30 and HERE (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UKXujnyvFXI) at 1:42 and 5:08, in case you'd like a better view)

Could there be some clarification on this, please?

Yup. You're right. I was reading too much. My Okham's Razor was a little dull. :p

As I've stated in my other thread, there were no button indications allowing the use of a parry. The tutorial made no use of one and the dev behind me didn't mention one. It's possible that the video with the parry animation is a different build of the game than the Gamescom or PAX build. I'll try to get a second play through on Sunday and Monday, but it might just be the animation and not an actual feature. Regardless I'll try to engage a parry on my second play through.

On the Art of Battle page (http://forhonor.ubisoft.com/game/en-ca/news/164-200069-16/for-honor-the-art-of-battle), it says, specifically---"If you react at exactly the right moment, you can parry the hit and throw a powerful counterattack to your enemy." (under 'signs and feedback')---which I'm guessing means moving the stick the direction you intend to block at the same moment an attack would hit, or at least in the midst of the attack animation, rather than holding the stick in the direction prior to the attack being executed---in a similar way to Assassin's Creed counter system (or any other melee-focused game with a parry/counter system), but a stick motion (given For Honor's blocking system) instead of a simple button press.

Maybe ask about it specifically, if you do get another chance to play.

And all the gifs in my last post were taken from Gamescom playthroughs, so unless they brought a less complete build to PAX, it should be the same thing.

Thanks regardless, and my envy cannot be contained. Hopefully, they'll give some indications or details for the beta soon, so those of us that can't make it to events will be able to test these things out for ourselves. This suspense is deadly.

Thank you for this! I'll definitely try this out at PAX! Don't worry, the game is better than it looks! :)

So due to scheduling issues with one of the guests, once again the podcast has been delayed to this Sunday.

So hopefully we might get this done at some point :D
