View Full Version : ME-163's Lagging out servers?

Hi all, Was wondering if anyone has noticed that when you get 163's in a server, it goes downhill fast.

I think the darn thing is too fast for the servers or net code. Everytime I see one in a server it warps everywhere. If there is more than one, it gets bad for all.

Can someone else try this?

I noticed this too the other day in Ivan's coop server. I had been running a 4xMe-163 vs 16xB-25 mission for the past few days and it worked great so I expanded it to include more human planes but reduced the bombers to 8 and gave it to ivan to host. It was a disaster. The lag was completely unplayable dispite half the planes crashing on takeoff do to a newbie Me-163 pilot. I then tested a simpler mission that I should have been able to host myself. It had 8xMe-163's vs 8xBi-1's. I can host a 16 player coop with no lag usually but in that one I had only 6 players and it was still incredably laggy. There must be something wrong with the net code when it comes to rockets. Jets work fine it seems but rockets kill it instantly.

The Warbirds Birds of Prey server will feature this bird and the me262 on one of its maps in the near future. Its a very powerful server and has enough bw to meet the challenge. We will be testing missions that involve attacking a me 262 and 163 base with ta152s, K4s, and late model 109s and 190s protecting the base while the pilots attempt to take off, complete their mission and land. The P-51s , high alt spits, P47s and P-38s have their work cut out for them.

More anecdotal evidence for you Coastie:

We fly squad Coops with a very consistent host (ZG77_Spectre), usually 3-6 players or so, with no significant or unexplainable lag to speak of. However, Spectre has an Me-163 mission (over Berlin, which is not normally troublesome) against B-17's. In my experience (maybe Spectre will post more) we've seen some extremely weird stuff come from this mission, almost certainly lag/latency/net-code related.

The most recent was a complete loss of the game, we all ended up disconnected in various states of computer lock-up or mission status. If I had to guess I would say it was a sync problem between host/clients, and after reading what you wrote, I'd agree that it is due to the Me-163 speeds and/or Me-163 coding. This one may be a no-no for online.

I've seen this both with the VFC Coop night thats already been mentioned as well as on the #401RCAF squadron dogfight server when they had them enabled.

Smooth sailing till a Me 163 shows up and every player on the server starts to warp severely.

We were 2 using 163 on Prowar also with other jets and 45+ props we were only 6 to 8 but we didn't notice any warping but this maybe because we were not to many.

Hmmm, Maybe you were fortunate enough to have all players with dsl/cable connections and good machines. It seems that 2 163's in a server of 8 planes is all it takes to screw the server up.

We had a coop server with 8 people, at least 3 had 56k dialup with pings around 200-300 which is normally fine. There were 4 163's in this mission and it was totally unflyable. Nobody was seeing the same thing.

We were also using externals. I am wondering if externals amplifies the situation at all?

****Side note: We also noticed that the pings stayed pretty much the same and nobody was kicked! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/blink.gif Very strange.
