http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_mad.gif Arrghh! I have read up on, and seen, the AI adjust radiator settings - however none of the settings appear in the "controls" section, or on the card. How do you adjust the radiator flaps? This is mostly theoretical, as I spend most of my time practicing gunnery. Nevertheless, I hope to move up to the big leagues someday. Someone please let me know.

The documentation is not very clear on this. The radiator is also called "cowl or armor flaps"...should be mapped to your "R" key. S!

rgr.. it's the "cowl/armor flaps"... I wish there was an indicator in the P-51 for this so I could turn my HUD off in the properties file... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

What do I use the radiator for? I imagine the engine cools faster, but at the expense of air speed, is that right? I've always left the radiator in its default position.

Radiator control = "R." The purpose, of course, is to let air through the engine compartment, around the cylinder heads and exhaust stacks for cooling. But in some aircraft, open radiator flaps/cowling impacts performance. The 109, for instance, has four radiator flap positions (activated by sequentially hitting R). In a dive, full open flaps can slow the a/c. In a Mustang, the flap opens behind and under the radiator scoop and affects speed. On the P-47, the flaps are behind the cowling and, when open, changes airflow and flight characteristics.

In FB, the use and impact of radiator flaps seems consistent with those in real a/c. LW pilots, those who flew variants of the 109, have said they used them to control plane attitudes in combat, almost like trim...as well as cooling the engine.

If you want to watch these work in FB, turn on externals and watch as you activate them.

Winning isn't everything;
It's the only thing!
