Just got done with the Hidden and Dangerous Offline and have to say its very intense. After that it would be Call of Duty and the FB.

I would have to go with FB as my #1 with CoD next...but that is only because I have not yet tried H&D...but I intend to get it. In fact....H&D will be the first FPS I ever bought. I played the CoD & MOHAA demos and that was enough for me (the demos) but the graphics of H&D remind me of FB...and I slept on IL2 for a year before I finally got it (Granted...my old rig..the OLD old rig...wouldnt even run it..it was just a PII233MHZ...) From what I have seen about H&D and from what i have heard from people whose opinions I resect..H&D IS the FB of WW2 FPS. I am not familiar with any WW2 Naval sims but I know they are out there, they just have no appeal to me. Because WW2 was such a broad conflict IMO you have to include at least 2 of the 3 arenas fought (land, sea & air) in order to even answer the question properly.

Hidden & Dangerous 2 & FB. CoD is very arcade-like IMHO and I really didn't enjoy it that much.

European Air War is the best ever in terms of feel and immersion IMHO. A combination of FB's complexity and visuals with EAW's presentation and environment/immersion would be a dream come true.

FB still amazes me. I hardly ever fly a mission were I don't go WOW! Now with the new RAF voices and campaign its only getting better.

Its too bad Oleg has only recieved less than 1% of the money I've spent to run FB maxed out.

I've lost interest in FPS sims, I don't even pay attention to what's available. I have tried Ghost Recon and its alright and I used to enjoy SOF. Unless something spectacular comes along I can't take anything serious except flight sims. FB is hands down my favorite. I hope to enjoy CFS the rest of my life.

ild have to go with Hidden and Dangerous 2, its got great visuals, very cool inventory system, ability to take on the levels in your own way, steal, guns blazing or even do it without killing anyone if your good enough and the objectives allow.

LeadSpitter,
You think a lot like mehttp://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif I too am a big fan of Operation Flashpoint. I go by the name of MoonDog43 when playing online.

I totally agree with you about these arcade shooters like MOH and COD. COD could have been much more with a few more realism settings added to please the older or realism crowds. I took the game back to the store after being entertained for a short time and bought the Operation Flashpoint GOTY edition.

I am a big fan of the modding community for OFP. There are some really good and talented people out there for sure. The WWII mods are some of the finest. I hope I44 and some of the other mods get completed.

I feel you are as displeased as I am about some of the online play regarding IL-2 FB. Especially some of the cheating that has reared its ugly head again. I have seen you come and go from a couple servers I was on over the past couple weeks.

Ufortunately, there is also a lot of blatent cheating in online Operation Flashpoint as well. Wire frame hacks and no fog hacks are the two worst.

I hope IL-2 FB gets cleaned up and I am looking forward to Operation Flashpoint 2 also.

Best regards,
SodBuster43

I've stopped playing anything except FB.

2nd place would go to Sudden Strike, which I enjoyed a lot. But that has nothing on how much I enjoy FB. I'm even thinking about getting Shaw's book. Wouldn't do that with CoD or any of the others.

Hidden and Dangerous and Hidden and Dangerous 2. If you've not seen them, arcadeace, they're not FPS in the mould of CoD or similar, more tactical small (4 person) squad based combat simulations that can be played from first person, if you wish. Very immersive, top class war time atmospherics. I love Norwegian campaigns.

I am just getting into FB offline with Extreme_One and co.'s RAF campaign but mainly play online wars. Certainly *flight* simulation wise, the most immersed I've been in an offline campaign was back in the Fjord-based glory days of EF2000.

Cheers,

FB (although I still don't get as immersed off-line as I did with EAW and RB3D - perhaps because I never seem to get as involved with protecting the other squadron members).

OFP (I'll search for the WWII mods, because that is an exceptional game and is to CoD and MOH what bridge is to snap!).

Combat Mission - If you're serious about realism (as much as a sim can ever capture that) and historical accuracy, this is THE PC-based tactical military simulation.

I am in total agreement with Leadspitter on ofp.
Sodbuster43 you have posted an excellent piece on operation flashpoint giving it the praise it deserves.

RTS (real time strategy) mod by Karillion is one to check out if you havent already.although this particular mod is not WWII ,it is a mod that keeps you on your toes and will give you hours of entertaining fun.Excellent game.

As for Il2-FB ,umm simply the best http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Well, for my money it has to be 'Rowans' Battle of Britain. I'll grant you that the eye candy is not quite up to FB but it is getting better all the time. There are a group of enthusiastic folk who are continually updating and modding. I would urge anyone on this forum to give it a go, there is a demo on www.bob-ma.org (http://www.bob-ma.org).
I've played IL2 and FB since new but for some reason BoB keeps me coming back for more. I'm on this site as I am trying to d/l extreme ones RAF campaign, man, you;ve just gotta love Hurricanes.

dang, I worded this wrong.

I was looking for the best air combat, for offline.

ie. BoB, EAW, FB, IL2, etc...

And I do mean offline - I'm looking for immersion as the highest rating. Please give a good reason too!

OFP is pretty good - man, I remember running through the woods, my rate high, then I stop dead in my tracks and hear soldiers - I think my real heart beat was higher than the heart rate of the heavy breathing soldier - lol

btw, I have H&D2, I am stuck on one map and quit out of frustration http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

It was fun until this map - then it just pissed me off that in order to bring more 'immersion', they just throw 100 more AI on a map and say 'here, good luck mate'.

What map you stuck on Recon_609IAP?
Have just finished and thought it great although not as hard as the first but better imo. For people who don't like FPS H&D2 is well worth a look, atmosphere, more than thief 2!
Oh yeah offline WW2 flight sim. 4 me no contest IL2/FB.

I finished H&D2 also and thought it was the best single player experience I ever had (Vietcong was excellent also). What map are you stuck on? Are you playing it lone wolf or with squadmates?

With squadmates.

It's the map in the desert with the Italian planes on the ground and some doing flybys.

You start out by the jeep and drive it around the corner, etc..

I tried both sneaking up and full attack.

Recon_609IAP, that's quite a hard level. A lot of fun though. My solution to that one was to storm the building by blazing up around the back of it in the Jeep, take the rooftop immediately with all four of your men and use the MG42s to spread some carnage, detonate the fuel dump, etc. When the tank rolls up you can duck down below the parapet until an opportunity to stick an RPG through it's tailpipe presents itself.

EAW was the immersive offline sim for me. I used to come from work to just have a sortie on that. Weekends were given up to it! I got so into it, it felt real!

It just had so many aircraft.

To be honest i didn`t expect another Sim to beat it.

Then came IL2...

And the added English voice pack/ Atmos which i`ve added to the Soviet Campaign has just jumped it up another notch.

The king of all WW2 Sims is Combat Mission. It's the most realistic and detailed simulation I've played. If you looking for more thinking and strategy than shooting stuff (although there's plenty of that and more)then I highly reccomend CM.

Recon, believe it or not on that level the best way to do it was put your best AI gunner in the gun position of the jeep. Creep up very slowly and your guy will pick off enemies with ease. He will be devastating. I literally did this until I was almost right on top of base, got out near hangers at end of base and swept my way across the buildings. One time I finally did the mission but could not find the documents, apparently I blew them up with grenade or MG fire. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif
