Guys I have Sturmovik (IL2) and love it! I have been away from it for awhile. Can you explain how if at all Forgotten Battles relates to Sturmovik. Do you need STurmovik to play FB? Also how about the expansion pack for FB? Was there ever an expansion pack for Sturmovik IL2?? this web sites does not make it clear!

Forgotten Battles is the sequel to Sturmovik. Forgotten battles has a bunch of new aircraft, upgraded graphics, more maps (with more detail), a dynamic campaign generator, and all sorts of changes here and there. The expansion pack for FB is for Forgotten Battles only.

I understand that if you do upgrade to Forgotten Battles from IL2 you can still play the old IL2 missions since the missions are essentially the same and the engine has changed only at certain levels.

I'd recommend you grab the new Forgotten Battles Gold Pack when it comes out. That will include the Forgotten Battles game plus the Ace Expansion pack.

FB's sound is not as good as Il-2s sound; I had a hard time getting used to it, but the eye candy is definitely superior.

cheers

IMO the Fms,DMs and graphics of FB are superior to those in IL2 not tomention the plane sets...those features alone make FB more than worth the time and money. Wait till Wednesday if you are in the US.. the AEP is due then.

What is AEP?? So guys if I am understanding you correctly FB is Sturmovik plus alot more and you do not need Sturmovik to Play FB?
Also I am assuming that you can do all of the Russian Front a la Sturmovik with FB. Sorry to be so basic in my questions but I had an old machine which did not play Sturmovik wel but just got a new box and it runs it just well and am just discovering it's delights

This also includes an AI B-17G and flyable P-15D, which is of particular interest to many Americans. With the upcoming Aces Expansion Pack, the A6M2, P-38J & L, YP-80 and others will be forthcoming.

If your tastes run towards USN shipboard interceptors, there is a lively rumour mill concerning a project based on the FB engine announced with vague details by Luthier. Luthier has made many contributions to Sturmovick and FB already, and has a third party add-on out now. There has been some information gleaned on this project, leading many to believe that its setting is the Pacific. No official details have been released to confirm or deny this, but hang around here, Netwings, and Luthier's site Il-2 Center (http://www.il2center.com/) to learn more.

Yeah FB is entirely new game. It had been intended as an expansion to Sturmovik, but in the end so much was added and changed it was made stand alone. No offical expansion was ever made for sturmovik, though some 3rd party companies did relase packs with missions and skins in them, but you can find most that stuff for free anyways.

Hi,
p39 in Sturmovik and FB is not the same for FM
in spin , stall and energy breed.

as we know IL2 Sturmovik take 2-3 year for research and develop which p39 was service in USSR. they have maney document for build p39 FM.

I wonder which p39 FM in Sturmovik or in FB get close to the real ...

I picked up the older game also a few months back and it's a great set up.
The sound is super on it except, for the old western bullets winging by sound.
And it runs smooth on my machine and the graphic are pretty good, all though not asrefined as Forgotten Battles.
I'd have to give it a 9 on the 1-10 scale. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif
