Hey its taken me 3 days to notice this - so I wonder how many of you did?

Look at the shot in the trailer where the light rotates and shines on the wall. (Just before "Every family has a secret")
Theres a 3D Hand dragging the light around!
Wow what a cool mouse cursor.

I had noticed that too. I opened a thread asking about it in the spoiliers section - wasn't sure if it qualified or not but didn't want to post in the wrong spot if it was.

Makes a nice upgrade to ol' pointy finger, yes?

Aww I love the old Myst/Riven/Exile hand. But this one looks lovely. I was quite disappointed that Uru, once again, broke the tradition of the hand.

It seems silly, but if you think about it (especially in Myst, where there is no interface), the Mouse Cursor is the most important graphic in the game - you'll have it on the screen at all times, and its constantly the centre of attention, so its quite a big deal!

I agree with EMS, the cursor is our main means of manuvering through the Myst games, it'll be a nice facelfit for us. I just hope they put as much time into tightening up the cursor control, so that I don't have to dumb down my graphics like I did with Uru. That was SO annoying! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-mad.gif Surely a company that can produce such advanced games can get the cursor interface to work more precisely. I've read, and heard, more than a few complaints from Uru players that the mouse "lagged" and was loose and hard to get a precise lock on things, unless the graphics were turned down. Which in my case made only a marginal improvement. It really defeats the point of having a computer set up for getting maximum graphics enjoyment from your games, just to get your cursor to work properly. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-sad.gif Hope they fix that, maybe something as simple as a cursor speed setting in options that actually MAKES a difference - like in Exile.

I don't want the hand to change. What about tradition?

Yeah I thought it was cool that Exile honoured the tradition.
But only half of Cyan's games used the hand.
Myst/Riven used the hand.
realMYST used its on big hand (that was cool btw)
Uru used the circle thing (what was that?) (Maybe they thought you'd get confused with the hand cursor and the journey hands!) (Or maybe they should have used the journey hand as a cursor - laff)

So Revelation will be the sixth game in the series, and make the old Mac hand back to half the games in the series.

I had no signature for ages, but I think I'll have one now!

though as another thought... I wonder if it's just a "action" cursor. You know, like, we have the original type of cursor but when we click on things with a cinema video it turns into that hand?

I remember reading somewhere that URU had been designed with the 3rd person view in mind. To me, seeing my avator on screen complete with arms and honds on the end of them, and then a hand as a mouse pointer would not make much sense. I thought the 'O' pointer worked rather well - I'd have no problem seeing that again in any other 3rd person game.

That 3D looking hand does indeed look cool. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I like that idea, and I hope that's what they chose. I don't want a whole 3D arm and hand in my face all the time as I move around these new worlds!!!

The "interactive" image from Revelation on the front page of the Myst IV website uses a pointer very similar to the one in Uru.

Just an observation. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Ahhhh, but to those who are playing a Myst game for the first time it will look very "Myst like" indeed! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

What do you mean? They won't have any preconceived notions at all.
OK you are right about Uru cursor - I didn't think about the fact that you already have a hand.

A Myst-hand changing to a 3D hand when an action is performed - probly not. I dont really mind if its small like myst-exile or if its 3D. But I hope its not a circle like Uru again.

Oh one more thing I just thought of - YOU'D BETTER HAVE ANIMATED FLYBYS!!!!

I had no signature for ages, but I think I'll have one now!

YAY!!!!!

Yes, animated flyby's were the thing I missed the most about Uru, I think. And the hand sucked, but I read somewhere that the hand on the teaser site will not be what they use in Revelation. And that makes sense, because if the hand is so new and secretively cool, they woudln't want to show it on their teaser site too early.

I think the cursor should change accordingly.

Hand Icons (http://www.cs.hmc.edu/icons/hands/)

When we're warm, the cursor could flash.
When we're cold, that next-to-the-last.

is it just coincidence that you linked to a page from HMC? I'm going there next fall.
