Is it modeled... I've made a couple of pictures that show what I mean... VERY rough.. but anyway..

Is this modeled in FB?

You mean, the bullet carrying more energy due to its own velocity + the aircraft velocity? As far as i know, this is modelled. But i'm sure there are people around who are wiser in their ways http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Nobody knows for sure? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Or haven't any smart person seen this yet? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/34.gif

I know that if you dive and he climbs you will have a much better chance of blowing him to pieces. The best he can do is kill your pilot.
If you mean your ammo is stronger when you are firing from above I can tell you it is true. I don't know if I am sure what you mean but know for sure this game is VERY realistic!

In terms of physics and aeronortics that is.. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I read an article regarding the FW-190 (related to the game not real life) and it talked about its high speed performance being an asset. It said that one of the advantages of this would be the more deadly the guns would be due to the increased aircraft speed. But it could have been BS at its highest order. One just never knows these things. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-mad.gif

If you reaq the manual from the original Il2 I think it would lead you to the conclusion that this is indeed modeled.

The original Il2 manual goes into effectiveness of gunnery over a page or two mentioning that the effectiveness of the guns in the planes in the game, degrade with distance. (Presumably due to a decrease in latent energy. If this is the case.... then the latent energy would be increased if the target were closer.... and increased still further if it were a head on encounter.

In real life this was indeed a factor... exspecialy for cannons....at least in the case of the Luftwaffe as if the shell were to strike the target from the rear at a distance in a co-directional target (when energy was low) there was the distinct chance that the fuze in the cannon round would fail to detonate altogether.

Yet another reason that Luftwaffe pilots prefered head on attacts... less fuzing problems.

P.S. Gaz Lewis is quite right in this case
