I wonder what maps/areas we can expect to see. Midway and the coral sea I suppose are a must, but what else you think?

Uhhhh you might want to dump the HTML script in your sig...and to answer your question....
Players will be able to target enemy ships, vehicles, airfields and aircraft on one of the 16 new maps, including Guadalcanal, Pearl Harbor and Singapore. The online multiplayer options allow players to engage in live battles ranging in style from free-for-all dogfights to cooperative campaigns. Bearcat the mod.

Why hasn't it happened yet?

Hey - Maybe with this new forum huh?

The list of possible addon maps is large too. The Mariannas - The Phillipines - etc..

Midway is a very likely guess what with 16 maps.

Leyte Gulf? Some coast of Japan?

Square kilometers?

"Crimea" size Maps, or larger?

Will we need drop tanks on Zero and P~38? Large Maps alone could keep out those Bf~109 and Yak~3 from that "other" sim. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Omigod, the Battle of Midway!
Omigod, Pearl Harbor!
Omigod, flying patrol in The Slot!
Omigod, flying over Mt. Suribachi!

I'm quite excited about this sim (for those who couldn't tell).

Rabaul. Oh please, Rabaul.
Clarke Field
Wake Island. With shore batteries one hopes.
Wau. Try landing uphill. Don't mind the Imperial Army troops in the treeline. Heck, Port Moresby on north for New Guinea.
Darwin.
Mount Fuji
Okinawa. How many torpedoes can the Yamato take ?
Tarawa
Iwo Jima
Samar Point. And a CVE model.

That's my wish list.

Dutch East Indies and New Guinea. Which are probably in it considering the RAAF is in the game. Hopefully even Darwin, Port Phillip and townsville.

Me burning with exctiement here. The whole battle of Singapore will be nice indeed, especially if you're flying Japanese side http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/784.gif Ki-43, Ki-27, A6M, A5M against B-239/339 and Hurricanes I and II, what else to say. Now that's just for us fighter pukes, bombers should have Ki-21s, Ki-51s, G3Ms and maybe some floatplanes while RAF bombers will have Blenheims. Not to mention Wildebeests http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif.

What I hope for but guess we are unlikely to see is at least one map that is absolutley awesome in size. One of the cool things about CFS2 was the ability to use the full range of the fighters. Granted, it's not really practical, because few gamers have time for or wish for the ability to fly 8 hour missions, with less than 20 minutes of fighting. But talk about the need to get your navigation skills sharp!

I think it was Boyington who said that air combat (in the Pacific) is hours of boredom interrupted by a few moments of sheer terror.

This is the kind of flying would require interaction with radar and an implementation of the navigation and communicaton technology of the time. That's no small order. There are lots of things absent in FB that a truly great PT sim would need, but that should not hinder our enjoyment of what is being offered! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

How big, I can't say, but surely some of these maps will be WAY bigger than FB maps. It's all water, after all...

A must for the Australians is a Darwin Port area map.

Some very large scale raids took place on Darwin in 1942/1943 and it was also about the Southern most extent of Japanese activity in the PTO during the war.

Some info:

http://home.st.net.au/~dunn/bomboz.htm

It would be a real pity to miss that out.

"As weaponry, both were good, but in far different ways from each other. In a nutshell, I describe it this way: if the FW 190 was a sabre, the 109 was a florett, or foil, like that used in the precision art of fencing." - Gunther Rall

Luthier!
I am pretty excited about the Singapore Map!!
The Malaya Campaign , the Destruction of Force Z.
Lots of possibilities for the Singapore Map, with historic Missions for Coops and DF servers involving the Zero the Brewster, the Hurricanes of the RAF.
People talk a lot about Corsairs and Hell cats, they forget the Allies where on the recieving end of a string of major defeats that pushed the Allies right back accross the Pacific where the Zero held sway.
It took time for the Allies to recover in the Pacific, and build planes purpose built to get on top of the Zero.

Yes indeed do not leave out any Singapore or Malay Peninsular map, it would be a must have Map for this Sim.

Cheers

Some comments about maps/and appropriate AI.

I'd also like to see Darwin. And for Pearl Harbour, I sure hope the US AA is artificially dumbed dow to simulate the suprise. Otherwise the Japanese will all be shot down before they can even see the battleships. Try to attack 6 stationary Marat's and see what I mean!

We can only speculate... Real area covered with our currently "biggest" Finnish Gulf map is nothing compared to Singapore, yet Guadalcanal or New Guinea! It looks that PF engine must be STRONGLY modified compared to FB one, we can only guess how much... Now I understand why it will be stand-alone product.

Art-J, my concern is that the maps won't be as big as we are hoping.

I totally agree with you!! PF is now released.. but no Singapore map in it yet. Maybe it will come in a patch later?? They really should include Malaya & Singapore maps!!
