The first game IL-2 ,
Built around a plane that no one in their right mind ever heard of.
Played out on the Eastern Front, The Clash that no one told you about..
With grafix display detail that caught a computer geeks attention..
Played on Win98 500-1500 processor, 32-64mb VC.256-512 ram.
Along with early USB.Complexity rating 6-9.
Maybe a market in Europe not in North America.
Never thought it would last.
The audeace that it drew:
The war gamers
Pure gamers
History buffs
3D moderlers
Grafic artists
Computer Geeks

FB http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Complexity 6-10 and ugly cover.
Nice step-up still more or less on the same path when it first came out.
Most all the up-grades seem to lean on the Gamers wants . Some like the server stuff was needed
and a thank you to all who helped bring forth and keep them running.
No new flyable bombers & common planes leaves quite alot of the audiance out in the cold.
Addindg say flyable Storch., U-2 ,IL-10, Ai Do-17 would have put my mind at ease.
I do miss the Officers Lounge
Love UBI, USA first (2weeks).
What beta update timeout ?

On the computer side of things,
For myself, new computer with a ATI 9700 pro,XP , USB2.0 .Was a great leap forward.
The performace boost and the complexity just took my breath away
Seeing this game running on a high end system 3000+pro, gig ram,256mbVC is amazing.
But also, copy protextion, over heating, the right sound or VC setup headaches..
USB stuff, Trying to see, hat SW,Tir, view point,3D glasses.
Any setup so you do not have to use the key board. How many buttons ,switches, rotarys, mouse immulaters, slides rules do we need.?? FFb anyone?
Large files sizes, down loading now reguires DSL or cable.

Where Is this going.
The lack of twin engine aircaft that are flyable I hope is just been in the wind and just been waiting for faster computers to run them. Which by the end of year I hope to see in the market place. 4000pro,gig+ ram, 256-512 mb VC & new bigger faster buses.
Be nice to see the eastern front detailed out with russian twin engine aircraft made flyable.
Still have the detail but as it looks like the dreamers of what might have been are taking over.GO-229 . Not complaining just thought it is a Little tiny bit off path.
The history side of things WW2 seems to be wayning
Some old crap planes would be nice.instead of jets & what might have been.

The new one coming out.
Aces of whatever
Sounds like single engine fighter jock lingo to me( FPS style).
As to it's content, with UBI distruting it. I'll wait till it is on my computer.

I dream of soldiers & horses, forward air control (observers) foot & vehicles.
Without horses the eastern front does not feel or look right.
Radar ,ground & air allowing tactical direction.
Mobile working Artillery.
Ammo dumps & trucks
Ai ships that are more realalistic with damage
125 B-17s with escort flying at once.
Late war US BB with all latest fire control & radar.
Late war US DD with latest fire control radar
Aircraft carriers
The game realism so good that it be a must have for studying WW2.flight & flight action
This game has drawn a good group of people.
With the US planes , mexico,Brazil I have seen post there planes..
I would hope that kids that play this would play & learn history. For there is alot to be learned.
If the game could be broken down into maybe 6-9 CD series.
Covering all fronts and game play style.
Pre-war and what might have been.

The Final Flight of WW2 Played out
Flying Me262 to intercept 1000 4 engine bombers with escorts over Berlin.
Just a Pipe Dream

Wow! What a post! While I don't totally agree with everything you say, on the whole you have covered the essentials pretty well.

I do agree that flyable mediium bombers are the most serious omission in the IL2/FB universe.

Pe2, A20, Ju88, G4M Betty, The various Bristols, these were the workhorses. Multi purpose aircraft that did just about every job.

We need them. BADLY

I have been regretting of late that my machine cannot run missions involving 30-60 bombers approaching a target area, with a screen of perhaps 30 fighters coming in to clear out the protective air cover.

And yes, we need the bombers. We don't need a P-80 or a Me-163 nearly as much as a flyable Pe-2. I mean come on, we only have Sturmoviks and the TB-3.

Research for some of those Russian bombers has only just surfaced. Maybe in the future we will have them.

Great post, and hopefully this game will expand to include many of these twins. I know the Bristol, B-25, BF 110 are coming. I heard a while back that the Mossie, Whirlwind, A-26, B-26 , A-20, P-61, and Ju-88 were coming. But I have heard next to nothing on them since.
