I have just completed a 1941-1945 russian fighter Leningrad campaign, with the (most unrealistic /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif ) figure of 354 kills. Thanks to a couple of lost 111s flying back to their base, I was able to beat Erich Hartmann, though I'm well aware that he wasn't able to "refly" after being killed /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Now I'm curious to know : what's your killcount ?

Here are my figures :

Overall kills (41-45) : 354
Best mission : 13 kills
No ennemy aces downed (that I know about)
Wounded once
Killed or captured : about 10 times I think

My career might not be as glorious as it seems, first because I'm not flying full real at all, second because I retried when killed or captured, but well, it's my first flight sim...

I think one thing that makes campaigns so deadly is that you play a mission a day and each day you encounter enemy planes. You never have fly missions without meeting enemy planes like it was in reality, I guess.

Am I right ?

Technically, you're right. Nobody ever encountered an average of 15 ennemies a day, or else no pilot would have survived the war...

But no matter how realistic routine missions would be, just imagine them in game terms ! For days and days and days... you would take off, patrol, land and take off again.

FB may be realistic, but it's still a game. After all, Ghost Recon players don't spend months doing push-ups, and Gran Turismo addicts don't wait for the one and only race of the season /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Above 500 !!! I thought my 354 was exceptionnal. I'm sure you're not playing full real either. Or else you're the best of the best /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

no, iam the best of the best....just kidding...no not on full realism i tried it but it was frustrating, cause i think the game dont allow to play a campain at full realism, the AI dont act real and that makes your job harder than hard.

but no unlimited ammo etc. on my career

I messed around with the 1944 and 1945 campaigns some, but never did the whole thing and probebly never will. I do particapate in online campiagns though. My current kill count in VOW is 10 air kills (only 2 human), 71 ground kills, bailed once and zero KIA/MIA/WIA. I have only flown 12 missions thus far. But hey, there is no time acceleration so each mission takes about an hour, including waiting for other players to join.

As we all know, the Soviet Union had too many fighter pilots during WW2. So Stalin's scientists came up with a brillient way to solve this problem. They would make some of their pilots fly British made Hurricanes. The Hurricane was an uber flying coffin. It was designed to maximize pilot kills by providing nothing but fabric and a few wooden spars around the cockpit. This setup prevented the pilot from escaping easily while at the same time not interfering with enemy bullets and shrapnel trying to pass through it. The rest of the Hurricanes structure was designed to ricochet bullets and shrapnel into the cockpit. And thanks to the cockpits superb design, all of them would pass through the cockpit and the pilot inside with little difficulty. Of course the Hurricane's designers didn't stop there. In order for the Hurricane to become a flying coffin, they had to make it easy to shoot. They did this by making the Hurricane the slowest monoplane fighter in use at the time and even gave it a very bulky shape so that it would be easy to spot and hit. The final feature of the Hurricane was its ability to bury or cremate itself. And because it was made of biodegradable materials, the Hurricane was environmentally friendly after it buried itself. Because of these brillient features, the Hurricane was a perfect flying coffin and helped the Soviets solve the pilot surplus they were suffering.

As we speak, I'm realizing that the way I deal with offline campaigns is very arcadish : time x8 to get there (while I admire the landscape), followed by a nice and fun dogfight with rather limited difficulty settings.

Each mission then takes around 10 minutes, maybe 15, while it would have taken me a lifetime to achieve a 41-45 "serious" campaign.

But arcadish or not, bugged or not, I can tell you that FB campaigns very addictive : I just NEED to complete one or two missions when I get home (even late at night). From the moment my rookie pilot got promoted to lieutenant and got his first medal, I just couldn't let it go /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif
