Here are a few things i thought would be nice in a game like this. If enough of you agree, maybe we will get a few of them later.

*Personell management when you get promoted to squadron leader.

* Transfers of pilots (and the player, now and then)to different squadrons

*Addition of 15.(Span)/JG51 to the German units available (And 15.Slovak/JG51 too, if thats the correct unit.)

* Make it possible to apply custom skins to all aircraft in the campaign. At least the friendly ones.

* Add wound badges to the possible awards (medal wise)

* Add Lvov and Kiev maps to the Army group south campaign.

Ye Jacobites by name, lend an ear, give an ear!
Ye Jacobites by name, lend an ear,
Ye Jacobites by name,
Your fautes I will proclaim,
Your doctrines I maun blame, you shall hear!
2. What is Right, and what is wrang, by the law, by the law?
What is Right, and what is Wrang, by the law?
What is Right, and what is Wrang?
A short sword and a lang,
A weak arm and a strang, for to draw!
3. What makes heroic strife, famed afar, famed afar?
What makes heroic strife famed afar?
What makes heroic strife ?
To whet th' assassin's knife,
Or hunt a Parent's life, wi' bluidy war?
4. Then let your schemes alone, in the State, in the State!
Then let your schemes alone, in the State!
Then let your schemes alone,
Adore the rising sun,
And leave a man undone, to his fate!

It was the 13./JG52 that was the Slovakian unit, which is in FB. The 15./JG52 was the Croatain unit.

Agreed. Also, add in a random amount of time the pilot will miss due to injuries sustained in combat.

It is possible to change the 'standard' skin for all aircraft types in the game (it seems a bit unreasonable to expect to be able to specifically edit each and every skin of every aircraft in the game, though this is possible also through mission editing).

In the 'CampaignName.DB' file (for example Leningrad.DB, open using text editor such as NotePad), scroll down until you see the plane list for that campaign. Add the name of the skin(s) after the aircraft name, the first skin.bmp is for Summer use, the second is for Winter, such as this:

FW_190A4 SummerFW190.BMP WinterFW190.BMP

Works great, and looks great.

This i did not know. Thanks.

About the 15th staffel, the ook i was reading had that one down as spanish. Weird.

Another thing i want (im feeling greedy http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif ) is even more maps. One with Moscow (to do the strategic bombing attacks on the city, and because it would be nice to be able to fly over it!) and one with the northern part of the Finnish front (Petsamo, home of JG5). And while im at it, a romanian map or two!

A lot of things were discussed prior to FB Beta, but unfortunately they had to be dropped since the mission system of FB is - in spite of the DGen calculations - still pretty "non-dynamic".

For example transfers was one suggestions made by me back then, but Starshoy didn't see the possibility to incorporate it (either too complicated or too time-consuming). In my humble opinion the campaigns need to be re-tailored to the units and not to the geographical regions. I had played with the idea of doing that but as it seems it's too complicated to do without Starshoy (Frontline movement etc).

IMO the campaigns should looke like this (only for JG54, but you get the picture)

Dynamic Fighter Campaign for JG54

Leningrad 1941 (Bf 109 F-2) -> Ice Road Combat in Winter 41/42 (Bf 109 F-4) -> Summer Campaign against soviet shipping on Lake Ladoga (Bf 109 F-4) -> Soviet Summer Offensive near Rzhev (Bf 109 G-2)-> Soviet Winter Offensive January - March 1943 (breaking the lock around Leningrad - Fw 190 A-4) -> Attacks on soviet traffic lines May/June 43 (Fw 190 A-4) -> Operation "Citadel" July 43 (Fw 190 A-5) -> Battle for Orel August - September 1943 (Fw 190 A-5) -> Retreat to the Dnepr October - November 43 (Fw 190 A-5) -> Soviet Winter Offensive at Leningrad January - February 1944 (Fw 190 A-5) -> Gefechtsverband Kuhlmey June 1944 (Fw 190 A-5 or A-8) -> Battle for Panther-Line September - October 1944 (Fw 190 A-8)

Unfortunately the very important area of Estonia with the Courland Peninsula isn't modelled. I had started to collect data but I never found any maps with geographical profiles (heights above sea level etc) or pictures of necessary buildings (ancient castles of the German Order, Riga Cathedral etc).

Similar things could be patched together for JG 51 and JG 52 (replacing AG Center and AG South in the process). It's even possible for bomber units or ground attack units - once these are incorporated into FB.

I was trying my hand at the misson builder, attempting to build a campaign like that, but the whole thing was scuttled by the lack, as you say, of maps showing some parts of the theatre. In my original post i refrained from asking for maps since i remember someone saying that it would be too time consuming to make them for a free update, but it cant hurt to nag for a while...

Anyway, thats why i asked for the transfers. With them, you could have a quite historical career by jumping from unit to unit and staying in the parts of the world that we actually have maps for that way.

Thanks for the reply Thor!
There is always the next 1C sim though... Fingers crossed!

You don't have to be transfered (although it would be fine - for example you were flying with JG54, are now promoted to "Oberleutnant" and are assigned to a Staffel in JG51 as Staffelkapit√¬§n) for other theaters - JG54 made a lot of "base hopping" in 1943 and appeared shortly even on the Crimean Peninsula, at Kiev and Vitebsk etc ...

True. But then with most units going to Germany or France for periods of time transfers become the only way to keep the player in Russia, assuming he is not is one of the 5x JGs. The origin of this whole thing is my own desire to fly with some of the less famous Jgs on the eastern front.

Anyway, with the time limits of a life (not to mention the readig to figure out which unit whent where, and when!)taken into account the campaign im trying to get started on building will never be as grand as all that.

That's exactly the type of campaign I would like to have. AOE was one of the first to have this feature, and EAW had it as well. If one chose to fly with JG's 51, 52, and 54, they could stay with the same unit throughout the whole campaign, or if they started with a unit that later transferred to the west (such as JG 3), then they could be transferred to a unit still active in Russia. I sure hope Oleg can implement this in the future. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Not so weird. During the Eastern Campaign, Franco sent a big contingent of volunteers to thank HItler his support during Spanish Civil War. The infantry volunteers (a whole division) was generically known as "Blue Division". They were ordered to return after the collapse of the Russian Front, but some 400 of them remained to defend Berlin. All of these latter died.

The 15th staffel of JG 51 "Moelders" was known also as "Escuadrilla Azul" ("Blue Squadron") and comprised all the Spanish volunteer pilots that incorporated the Luftwaffe in the Eastern Front. There were also many Spanish exiled volunteers in the VVS.

I wonder why the contribution of Spanish soldiers to WW2 is so ignored. After the SCW, there were many exiled Republican soldiers that joined the local resistances. They were even the first partisan forces who entered Paris after its liberation! And many died in the Nazi genocide camps. This should be regarded. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

I agree. And the same goes for all the other nations that had men flying on the eastern front. Not only is it an interresting piece of history, it also adds to the scope of the game.
