I'm getting a new joystick to replace my crappy Logitech Extreme 3d...now, all i want is a cheap joystick to use before i get a Saitek X45, around march. Right now my choices are:

Saitek ST90 Joystick
Saitek ST50 Joystick
or the
Microsoft Sidewinder Precision 2.

Which of the three would be best to go with?

My .02 cents is the sidewinder. Everything I've ever got from Saitek, including the X45 has been poor at best. I've never had good luck with them, but maybe that's just me.

If you're not spending at least US$40 it's not good enough. Of the options you've suggested I'd say the MicroSoft stick.

Stay awy from the ST90. it was my first stick and it is quite cheesy, not enough buttons either.

I've still got my original non FFB Sidewinder hooked up right next to my MSFFB2, and honestly, I like the older sidewinder better. Why does the FFB stick seem like it has no re-centering force so often? Go for the Sidewinder... but I can't recommend the FFB version.

If your use to the logitech you probally will not like the x45 much, I think its the best joystick out personally owning the cougar hota, ch hotas, logitech wingman extreme " broke " msffb2 "Broke", satiek cyborg "broke recently" and x45.

I suggest you pick up the msffb2 which is very easy to fly with and do well right away.

That's ok, I absolutely HATE FFB (makes it hard to hit your target heh)...so that's not a factor. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Are there any cons concerning the Sidewinder? Like....too light?(that's one of the problems with my current joystick).

My Logitech Force 3d just plain blows, i'm willing to put in the time to learn how to properly use the X45...always wanted to fly HOTAS. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I have one and couldn't agree more.

"AF Four-Five, it appears that your engine is...oh, I see you've already ejected."
