Is there anyone using the NVidia 6800 Graphic Card? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif
I've been using the ATI 9800 Pro and I was interested on how the NVidia 6800 was working out for them while playing IL-2 and over all how is their computer graphic's now.
Over all was it worth it buying the NVidia 6800?
Thank's http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

I use exclusively nVidia cards.Given the price 6800 is sold today, the answer is no.Give it some months.Unless you're ready to drop quickly 500 bucks.Make sure you have a powerful powersource,450-500W if you buy it.

480W minimum is what Nvidia suggests for power supply I believe.

In addition to how well it makes the game perform, I'd like to know if anyone has been brave enough to hook up the water cooled version of the card. I would like to know how high you could overclock that thing!

I only have a 400W Power supply. I have the Dell 8200 series.
I'd have to change the Power Supply over. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif If that is possiable... money wise.
Thank's for the info!

Its 380 minimum if you don't want to overclock. I would play it safe and go 450 to max it out.

No, its 480 according to Nvidia.

NO.. NVIDIA droped the required PSU. Now its 380 W SUATAINED. In other words.. a GOOD 380 W PSU.

I have one at work.. and it is ASTUNESHING!!! Even the most complex shaders we program at it run as fast as if there was no shader at all.

If brute force does not solve your problem... you are not using enough!

Actually its sufficient to use one power connector at 350 watts. The second connector is needed to assure max loading when overclocking, thus higher wattage.

The FX 6800 Ultra has the high power requirements and two molex connectors. The FX 6800 and 6800 GT can be run with a 300W or 350W PSU that is rated >20A on the 12v rail.

As for comparisons between the different cards, the FX 6800 GT seems to be the best bang for the buck. It's the same price as the X800 Pro, but has 16 pipes instead of 12. GT isn't out in retail yet....

The 6800 GT outperforms the X800 Pro in Il-2 AEP running at 1024X768 resolution 32-bit color.

According to the spec's I guess 38 fps is not that bad considering all the gingerbread thats turned on.I would imagine that the current set up i have would probaly only be able to handle 10 fps with the 8xAF enabled.Damn another $500 this games gonna get me for.

Your lucky Dawg-of-death ... I envy you. I bought a 9800XT when they first came out. I had six NVidia cards prior ... and am still VERY pleased with the card and ATI/Omega's current driver support.

Both new cards are great. Both are garnering high praise in print and online. Blazing speed even at 1280 and higher, and doubling performance over the 5950 and 9800XT is unbelievable.

While the 6800's support DX9.0c and enjoys a slight lead in synthetic bench's the fact that ATI currently only needs one 12 volt connector gives them a slight lead. Once you enable AA & AF though then the X800 XT really takes off. Hardly drops a frame ... while the 6800 drops almost 20.

I think the X800 XT PE is the card to get woofiedog ... but both are fine cards so you can't go wrong. And as to the single power lead issue ... both ATI and NVidia will need two power connectors anyway with the upcoming PCI Express versions (for the new six prong plug).

One thing thats for sure ... having two very robust card manufactuers only benifits us all. I'm very happy ATI has been giving NVidia a run for "our" money.

wow, seem that GT would be the best choice for an intermediate upgrade!!! Really a better price/performance ratio than a X800Pro

Razer, based on the system in your sig and the fact that you overclocked it, I would highly recommend a more powerful power supply for an X800.

From everything I have read the two cards perform the same until you go to higher resolutions and turn AA and AF up. Then the X800pro blows the doors off the 6800. The one thing that the 6800 has over the X800 series is Direct X 9.0c hardware support, but then again by the time 9c is expected to be implemented in new software these cards will not be at the top of the vid card market anymore.

The X800 series runs fine on 300-350 ps's.

owlsphone,I'm gonna mod a frends PC and he's getting a 500W PSU
Now in his Chieftec bigtower there is a 350 or 360W PSU

What if I buy that one?(for a frend price seing as I'm gonna compeltly mod and OC his computer for free)

Would that suffice?

@MRL*******(couldn't remember yur whole name)
I have overclocked my system and a UV CCFL will come in also,so my 300W is getting stressed I believe http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

my CCFL "blinks" now and then when my HD goed under full load(they use same molex connector)

Razer, if you can get a sweet deal on that power supply then I say go for it. That way if it works out, you got a power supply for cheap. Personally, I would get at least 400 watts while overclocking along with the new vid cards. Obviously power supplys vary in quality where a good 350 watt supply will make a system more stable than a craptastic 450 watt one. If you are experiencing system instability with your friend's power supply then maybe it will be time to upgrade, but at least you didn't shell out a ton of cash that you already spent on that shiny new video card.

How is the Linux support? I took a bit of a bath on Linux support with my 9800 Pro. When I come to build a new PC in about a year or something I am tempted to go for an Nvidia part again next time. By that point I might even be able to afford a 6800 as it won't be bleeding edge any more!

You got that right.

Its support of windows is near-perfect too (compared to ATI's, of course).

I was going to get a 6800 ultra but bought an engagement ring instead. She said "yes". http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Getting married requires no bravery. It requires complete cowardice. Once you realize that you've found what you've been looking for all your life, you get damned scared of loosing it, so you marry her as soon as you can http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
