Some votes, but no replies. You'd think this would generate discussion...

Pretty simple actually. Both have their positive and negative attributes. Most of which, Nixon-fiend is spot on with in his post.

Personally my heart still rides with the P-39 but the P-63 gives me that new ability to chase down planes that I couldn't before.

P-39.

Before the P-39 I avioded spin/stalls at all costs. After P-39, I use spin/stalls to their fullest advantage. Plus, nothing is better than sneaking under a Stuka to deliver a single 37mm pop to the wing, and down she goes!

P-63 is still a great plane though.

To be honest I just see the 63 as being the P-39 in a higher alt/speed realm. No you won't be riding the edge of stalls with the 109Fs anymore, so it's kind of less visceral and fun, and trying anything violent at low speeds is a pretty bad idea in it. But add another 100/200kmh and a few thousand metres alt to it and it's like flying the 39 all over again IMHO :>

I like the P-63. I fly it like a FW190 and it works for me!

Got to agree with your analysis. I like them both, but the major advantage of the King is its speed. For your low level furball and overall fun factor the P-39 can't be beat. Learn to conserve ammo and raise your hit percentage. Not many planes can handle as well once you learn its flight envelope.

That sounds just about right to me. I've been working on a new skin template for the P-63 and in the course of doing that, I've been flying it -- and against it -- quite a bit. I'm no expert pilot, or an expert on P-63s in real life, but my observation is that it's a lot like the 190s, except it'll turn somewhat better at speed. Don't get sucked into a scissors fight though; shortly after you notice contrails from your wingtips you'll be in a spin you'll play heck getting out of -- if you get out at all. It doesn't take much to get the 63's engine smoking, but it'll seemingly fly forever in that state, and absorb a lot of damage in general. The 37mm's rate of fire is still agonizingly slow, but with the .50 cal. gunpods its got more punch than other USAAF planes. I haven't found any plane that's a surefire 63 killer -- at least not in my hands.

I prefer the P-39 because it played a far more significant role in the war. There is some debate about how much the P-63 was actually used in combat, especially the P-63C. When I fly the P-39 I get that "historical" feel and its a blast, I don't get that with P-63. Its the same reason I don't fly the Ta-152H that much, even though I love the FW-190. The P-63C is a monster though and I think it is superior to the P-39 (as someone else said I fly it like a FW-190 and it does wonders).

with a low fuel load, the P-39 is quite formiddable, i love it

I like the P39 better.

I gave the kingcobra a decent chance, but everytime I take it up I feel like I fight it more than the enemy. I can still get kills in the 39. The 63 outright hates me.
