inspired by il2 i am, and am trying to make a flight sim with some friends on the net.

what sort of maximun thrust is a '41 spitfire or a '41 bf109 caperable of?

anybody know?

cheers guys.

I'm trying to get the physics right and just guessing constants and things. I'll probably resort to playing IL2 some more :-) to try and match the flight models in some way.

You guys have sure set yourselves a challenge. 1C:Maddox have on their team several Aeronautical Engineers and have had a team of people conducting research for several years in order to get the information you ask for in sufficient detail to provide the flight model fidelity we currently enjoy. I wish you the very best of luck.

yup, i've been on these forums under various names for some time noting how people get firey about how such and such a plane is 10kph off at a certain altitude.

An unconfirmed rumour has a young guy called Oleg something once saying "I wanna make a combat flight sim better than Microsofts!". Everybody laughed of course.

I just downloaded your demo and took it for a spin, Scary Pigeon, and I have to say, not a bad small step towards putting a sim together. I climbed to 3500 meters, did some diving and a couple of rolls, and the flight sim feeling was there.

Of course you know that in order to fullfill your goal you have to focus and work and probably sacrifice a lot. Good luck to you.

I think it's great that y'all are trying this.

Who knows, in five or ten years we may be singing your praises at Oleg Maddox level.

So starts the next generation of sim programmers....

OMG you had an Amiga and tried a Wing Commander clone on it!
"On the amiga I have a near complete advanced prototype for a wing commander style game"

I also have one, and I worked in a similar game, dunno if you remember the "Lambda" project, I was one of the graphic artists /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

This could refresh your memories:

(site isn't updated since 1999 or something...)

/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

And, good luck with your flight sim project! I downloaded the small demo, runs smooth and the feeling is nice.

Quite nice, I tried the first two ones, did a few rolls.. Ground and sky look good also. You must have done a lot of work.... Send them to Oleg and ask for a job ;-) Good luck on your endevor.... May want to save a few hundred $$ and go shopping on Amazon for some WW2 literature. ;-)

how old am i? 24. The guy who provided the code that I base the object loader on is 19 and the founders are 15 and 16, the plane object was made by a guy who was probably about 19-20 i think. The code is actually based on a racing car network thing i did for a project at uni: I'm hopeful that the network code can be made to work with this flight game too.

going to have to improve the physics though - somehow I know a spit cant do a 20g turn! and survive. curious though - can these planes get into such positions (and die) or are they inherrently more stable than that.

One imagines an unstable fighter able to pitch into a high speed stall and rip its wings off. Was this possible?

I didn't even know how to type at 24! I think I could balance a checkbook........

I don't think they could rip wings off in a stall. Pulling out of a high-speed dive, you bet. You need to find an aerospace engineer for your team. Again, best of luck to ya!

Yeah flightsim coding is a PITA! You either have to try to program some sort of physics engine like X-plane which then would rely on having 100% accurate aircraft models. Or using a microsoft style plugin engine. Or using what I assume IL2 uses which is a microsoft style software yet with more complex accurate code, and completely locked up.

Locked up is good though.

I'm programming in DarkBasic don't laugh! lol http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
I just play around more than I actually work on stuff. I don't do it for a living either so I'm not about to license a $2,000+ game engine, learn several new types of code, and purchasing $1,000 in 3D modelling software.
I'm also a one man operation so as anyone who does any game programming there's no way a solo person can compete with any team oriented legit company.
I don't work in teams though I want everything to be just like I want it to be.

I do have a Mig-21 model complete though except for skinning it. It's still way too high on the poly count at around 800 poly's.

XyZspineZyX

Above Va, it's always possible to overstress the aircraft through manoeuvering. How much depends on the speed of the aircraft.
