View Full Version : Separate Keys for Radiator Stages?

At the moment we have 1 key for toggle of radiator opening in discrete stages (FullyClosed > 2 > 4 > 6 > 8 > FullyOpen). I would really like if we could get separate keys for each stage. Actually, having the radiator management on an axis would be even better http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif

I play IL-2 with no no chatter-text, speedbar, and that "helper" for engine power etc. I like the full imersion into the aircraft (or as full as can get) and always look into the instruments (where possible). I don't know how many people would want this so some feedback would be nice from others in the forum.

what kind of joystick do you use and do you have a separate throttle quadrant?

I use a throttle from a Saitek X-45 and have the radiator assigned to a switch that allows me to cycle through the rad stages. If you dont have that, i'm sure you could just assign your rad to a button on your stick if its that important a control to have at your finger tips.
I dont think there is a way to assign the individual stages of the rad though if thats what your asking.

I use the Cougar and self bult rudder pedals / 4-axis throttle quadrant. I have 1-axis spare (not in use) and could also add 4 more switches to it. So, there's plenty of buttons and axis to go around and currently I have radiator toggle on the Cougar... but... since I don't use any of the "helpers" and I don't like using them... I have no visual referrence as to what settings I have the radiator on. 99.9% of the time soon after I am airborne I set radiator to stage 6 and leave it there. This way I know where I'm at in case I need to open it later fully or close I know I need tp press the button 2 or 3 times and so on. It does happen that I do forget what settings I'm on and then it's all left to luck if I remember what I had them on in the first place.

I assume in real life pilots did have a visual referrence to this so this is what I am really wishing for.

I'd love to see finer-grained controlls. Bump.

Mixture/s on a slider.
Radiator/cowl flaps on a slider.
Multiple throttle sliders.
Seperate buttons for mag1/mag2/mag1+2
Seperate buttons for charger stage1/stage2
Differential toe brakes for appropriately equiped planes
I have 16 axis available and can only use 10. Whats up with that?

Add to the list:

Seperate keys to feather seperate props.

I agree, separate cowl controls would be awesome. even a two key option open radiator in increments, close radiator in increments would be kewl

definatly needed, forward and back rad/cowl flaps keys and ability to map to slider.

This would help so much in the bnz rather then cycling like a madman with 6 presses required for something that should take less forward and back

I agree with BaldieJr... Would be great to have more options than only "Combat", "Takeoff" and "Landing", for example... Would be more realistic to have 25º of flaps or 1/4 of mixture throttle oppened...

actually that ability already exists... just use flaps on an axis... fully manual setings at any angle you like http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif
