View Full Version : Biggs to drop the Spits. Official

Sad news from Biggs, Let us hope there is someone willing to take over the reins... And bring this project to the virtual sky.

Sec.

http://www.netwings.org/dcforum/DCForumID43/103.html

Due to a great many accumulative circumstance/issues I'm going to have to drop the Spits. No-one more than I realises the pain of having to do this, and I just wish there was a way I could work round
this...But there isn't
So I'm just going to have to 'Bite the bullet' and change the focus of my attention for the time being and move on. On that note I'd just like to give a warm thankyou to all my internet mates, who've given their friendship and support, even tho the end result has eventually come to naught.
I'm sure tho, that someone will pick up, where I left off
S! to you all
Biggs Signing off.

The Spit is not needed. This sim is getting enough good new planes as it is.

I would love to see the Spit and any other good plane. The more choices the better. One thing about playing FB is the chance to fly so many different aircraft and to compare them. I hope someone will pick up on this and continue the work.

Tate_Bruce...It is your right to hold that opinion my friend, but I would put money on this being one of the biggest disappointments to hit this forum in a long while.
I hope that members who wish the Spitfire to fly in this great Sim will show their support in posting here.

Well if I was going to be flying the P-38 I would anti up. I won;t be but Kevin did an excellent job to say the least.

I would almost exclusivly fly the Spit if it were in the game and who better to do that but Kev?

I would also be willing to anti up a few bucks if that is what it would take to pay Kev for his time and I'm sure if enough guys do Kevin would do it.

I have my money waiting Kevin!

My words, mate! This is The Plane I would be pleased to pay for to any skilled 3D modeller who would take it to the skies of Forgotten Battles. To hell with all those '46 planes (I don't mean to offend modellers, really), fantasy aircraft etc. Why this must happen to Spitfire ?!?! /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif Everyone is geting their a/c, Germans, Americans, so why can't the Brits (although I am Czech) ?!?!? dweebfire is an old name given to online spitfire pilots.

all the noobs would flock to the spitfires in games like warbirds and airwarrior because it did what all noobs like to do, turn tight little circles.

the plane was dubbed the dweebfire, and the pilot was called a spitdweeb.

I was so hoping for a Spit for this sim. I'm sure that IL2/FB would be a great platform for showing off this planes strengths, AND weaknesses. If the FM were to be done well, this would be a great plane, and not the dog that it was in CFS. I am sure that there are others that feel the same as I do, and this will be picked up by someone VERY quickly. I've heard some modellers say before "If you want it, then YOU learn to model it.", and I were able, I certainly would. But I'd be just about as good at brain surgery. I have a feeling, though, that there are already some saying "Yes! I always wanted to be the one to do that plane!" So, like Bearcat said: "Keep the faith"

Guess we'll just have to wait lads - in the immortal words of Johnny Logan "What's another Year?"

If this sim is expanding westwards (Normandy & Ardennes maps would seem to hint at this), then not to include the Spitfire would be like EA leaving Brazil out of their next FIFA release. Think positive.

What 3d modeller worth their salt would turn down the oppertunity to have their name associated with the best looking plane in the book.

I wouldn't worry about it. If, as the dev updates suggest, we're getting a Western ETO add-on, then Oleg's going to have to put a Spitfire in. It'd be like doing the Eastern front without 109s.

man spit one of ww2s most important planes plus it was on eastern frount in large numbers, instead we get lotas planes that were far less important and good looking.

THIS REALLY P****S ME OFF. We Brits have sat here patiently, qiuetly for our aircraft to come up, while everyone else gets their plane then whines about it- and we end up with just one Brit plane. The Hurri.

I`m really sorry to hear the bad news from Biggs. It`s time we did something. It`s obvious to me that Oleg only hears the loudest, whiniest voices. It seems to me we are going to have to do what we hate to do- WHINE at Oleg in ORR! What else id there? Maybe we can talk to Gibbage, or even Ian Boys to have a quick talk to Oleg and mention the Spitfire. How the hell could this plane be so ignored.

The Spit, with the Hurri was the one of the few that created the small bottle-neck in the BOB it bought Adolf to a standstill. Without itthe US would have sat back and done nothing even when the Japs attacked they prob would`ve just fought Japan. The Russians would`ve been buggered cos Hitler would`ve been free to annihilate them with no other fronts. End of known civilisation.

So let`s become active!

Oh, and gutted_666 , shut up! /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-mad.gif

There's still also a good chance we would still get a Spitfire in FB. Before IL2center got porked, I swear I saw that 1C:Maddox had reserved the early Spits on the list. That's why others were working on later variants?

I hope someone picks Bigg's projects up...that MkIX LF was loooooooooking good.

This will probably make the Luftwhiner's day.

I was really looking forward to the Spit. The Allies desperately need an aircraft that works at higher altitudes. With the porking of the P47's FM and the impending porking of the P51 (trust me, it won't be correct...) the only hope for high altitude Allied goodness was the Spitfire.

Bummer......

Biggs was doing the Spit Mk.I and Mk.22. Personally I'm not THAT upset (but still upset) over the Mk.22, but the Mk.I is a must. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

Still, this may turn out to be a good thing as Bigg's progress was pretty slow. This is absolutely, 100%, in no way meant as a slight towards Biggs. I appreciate his hard work but unfortunately it seems like real-life got in the way. I just hope the project will be picked up and completed, and I wish Biggs the best of luck in the future. I hope everything is ok mate.

"The Allies desperately need an aircraft that works at higher altitudes"

Hate to burst your bubble, but the early spits decreased in performance the higher up it goes.

Also the spitMkI and spitV (to a much smaller degree), did not like manuevering at high speed. On the spitI you would even get aileron reversal (due to the ballooning of the cloth covered control surfaces at high speed).

It's a sweet plane, i agree, but you have to hope the guy you're fighting wants to get slow with you.

what do u mean, the higher the spit got the greater its advantage got over german aircraft, the spitfire was an excellent plane at high alt, it is also the plane that had the highest fight of ww2, when sent to intercept a high alt bomber and chased it i think to 14000ft. Its celing was higher than the 109 as well.

Which model?

Even the Mk I could almost reach 32,000ft. The Mk XI could go to 43,000ft.

Think 1 m = 3 ft (rough guesstimate/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif )

Yes the was in the eastern Med. The Ju's was photographing Alex harbour in '42. The modified Vc reached almost 50,000ft(15,240m).

necrobaron, I guess i should apologise for my outburst. It`s just weird how the Spit, known the world over seems to be getting such a battering... How can such an important (and beautiful) plane be so ignored?

If I could I would model it myself, but I don`t have a clue. I`m an artist, not a programmer.

I`m afraid all I use is pen, brush, charcoal etc and Photoshop for extra effects.

I can Draw/Paint you a Spitfire, no problem. How about a dramatic pic of a 109 and a Spitfire in a furball, when suddenly a Dragon dives in from above spitting hot fire?...

I like doing alternative pics like this too... /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Now all I need to do is work out how to load pics up... /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

Thats disappointing news /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif I would have loved to see the Spit. However, we have still got a lot of excellent aircraft to look forward to- who cares if they are not British? (BTW I am British) Remember, the early Mustangs were used by the RAF. Oh well, for now, if I suddenly feel the urge to fly the Spit I'll just have to use a Yak with RAF markings /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Anyone who didn't want the spitfire is a tool.
I am well gutted. It's the best looking plane of ww2 (in my op) and the best (british if not THE) best ww2 fighter.
It was so far ahead of it's time when the war started that it was the only allied fighter to be continually developed before, during and after the war.

They should have dropped a crap plane that nobody gave a flying duck about.

You still have to buy 3D Studio if, and when, you model an a/c for for FB. Gmax, afaik, cannot be used.

I think its utter crap when this beauty of the sky isn't in the FB package.
Kills FB for me.

The spit seems to be spooked in some way, have seen nice models from Biggs and another gent which name is lost in space but he also couldnt finisch the job.

I am sad, Hope You may find the time and the inspiration to finish the job.

on topic, I wanna see the Spit too, I don't like the hurri very much, but agree a Spit would be a cool plane to use. Especially in the Spit vs bf 110 scenarion mentioned earlier
