I have been flying sims since 1984 Commodore F-15 strike eagle. I have always "role" played that if you die, well, you simply start over ( That is the main reason static campaigns have always left a bad taste in my mouth).

I want to know how many kills anyone has ever gotten before they actually "died" in a campaign? What aircraft, campaign and how many kills, what complexity.....what did it feel like when it was over, what awards?

I have a 17 Kill ace (maximum complexity) in Extreme One's and Paymundo's RAF campaign (24 missions)...hey don't laugh! I'm proud of that!

Huggy97, the originaly Red Baron was great my record was 93 Kills German , full complexity, survived!

Aces of the Pacific , P-38, full complexity 40 Kills (just like Bong) crash landed and was captured.

Falcon 3.0 Mig 29 (Cuban Air Force) full complexity , 15 kills.

I need to make a correction. My current campaing in FB has got icons turned on. Before everyone starts yelling lamer, I really do not have any situational awareness without it :-)

Did you get the Blue Max? No matter how many kills I got I could never get the Blue Max in Red Baron.

FB,Russian fighter career Plane, Yak 1-b.

53 victories IIRC, killed NW of Stalingrad in 42 by friendly AAA http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

If the triple A don't get me the all to frequent "The airfield is under attack" does.

I just love being staffed and killed sitting on idle waiting to take off after surviving 75 + missions. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_mad.gif

Udidtoo, that sounds crazy!

Pentallion,I am talking the original Red Baron (not Reb Baron II) in the original Red Baron , you would get the Blue max at 20 or so kills from what I remember.

You can get many kills before you dies, but for sure you cannot go through entire campaign without dying. In this aspect this game is harder than the real thing http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif, 'cause some airmen in WW2 actually survived the war...

A lot of things depends on difficult settings that u choose. I personally never counted how many kills I've scored befor MIA/KIA, but I'll estimate that for about ~20 kills on realistic... I've focused on finishing my mission with as many friendly AI aircrafts alive as possible (actually I was able to keep one of AI squadronmates alive for two years now --started from '41--- just to compete with him in number of kills http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/35.gif), and to land to my home base every mission (if I failed to land at home base I hit 'refly'---sometimes can be very irritating though http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif)

And yes, when u mentioned Commodore64, you bring some nostalgy over here http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/heart.gif... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

On Amiga500's 'Wings'-240 kills...

Red Baron original with 103 kills on German side. I played that game WAY too much. At the current time I'm doing a Ta-152 campaign, have 21 airkills + 5 ground in only 4 missions, so far not even a scratch on my bird. I havn't had any KIA's in the squad yet either but one was shot down and wounded. In Pacific Air War I managed 40 something kills once and survived the war on Japaneese side. In that sim there was no refly option. When you died in the campaign, it forced you to start over. Only trouble was it was a static campiagn so those first few missions got VERY boring. I also completed the American campaign in it too, once again with about 40 kills. For those who may think that is a little low you need to keep in mind that Pacific Air War was 1942-43 only.

I build COOPs and DF maps. If you would like some of them you can get them atmy COOP page (http://www14.brinkster.com/triggerhappy770/default.htm)

I/JG1 Oesau is recruiting axis pilots who prefer to fly maximum realism. We accept both veterans and rookies. We fly in VEF2, VOW and may join other online wars in the future. Go to our forums at http://www.jg1-oesau.org/ for more details and to apply.

Finish a 109 G2 campaing (central or south.. dont quite remember) with 22 kills without die. But I played extremely carefully

If brute force does not solve your problem... you are not using enough!

never did something like this since BOB1940 and SWOTL. both games had no refly option and you had to backup your pilots manually. i did some campaigns with fresh pilots and started over when i died- especially the LW campaings in BOB1940 were really bad *** - mever got more than 15-20 kills before i died or was captured.

oh and i even never achieved the top rank and the brilliants to the KC with oak leaves and swords on SWOTL although i had over 600 kills and was already generalmajor http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif (continually saved the pilot to keep him alive ofc)

great stories I love hearing them.

I can not believe I forgot SWOTL.

I had 68 kills, my pilot's name was Hienz something, I can close my eyes and I remeber exactly how I died in that campaign. I was directly over a B-17 I had just shot up and my 109 exploded in mid air. No chance to bail out, nothing, just died. 68 kills.

SWOTL was unreal, I must of played that game for 2 years straight. I remeber getting 9-10 kills in one mission , shooting down Thunderbolts! try that in FB, It will never happen.

I finished an IL-2 campaign once, in the original. But it wasn't on any realistic settings.

Now, I play with full realism (other than speedbar). The most I've got through was a 102 mission campaign in a 109, only one WIA. It's still active to. But I haven't played it in a while. Should get back to it...Virtually my whole squadron has been killed...only one guy left!

Usually, I can get 30-50 missions in, with maybe 20-25 kills. Then, SOMETHING happens to me...AI crashes into me, AAA shoots me down, I get captured, sniped in a head on, or attacking a bomber. It's pretty tough to stay alive in WWII I guess.

Good stories though. Enjoyed reading them all.

As someone stated its virtually impoosible in this sim world to "survive the war" I used to try and try taking a pilot from Lvov on, no rank to start and hope to see the end.

I won't say its impossible but its the next thing. I finally relaxed my own rules and turned off the no instant sucsess.

With it on you cannot progress past some of the missions. The dieing in idle waiting for takeoff clearance was my favorite peev.

I have learned to adjust what I consider a sucessful campaign now. Keeping as many of my kill stealing, braindamaged, Wrongway Feldman flying AI squdmates alive as possible is really quite satisfying.

Making the equivelent of Major before the end of 42 is another.

With my current pilot, Olaf Crashalotski I have discarded my death= must delete rule just to finally progress to better planes both to fly and fight against if nothing else.

Currently am at Kursk haveing died 5 times now and 2 of them were spectaculer I might add. In the words of the late John Candy on SSTV "I blowed up real good"
