I don't know about some of you guys, but the shot patterns and tracer locations suggest most of that footage isn't from a P-51 or a P-47.

Some of the fighter shots do...the ones with the ships look like a B-25 with the 12 .50cal's in the nose.

I don't know about that, most of the firepower looks like it comes from a nose mount or something more concentrated than wing guns.

The gun camera opening was located in the leading edge of the left wing near the root which may make it appear as a nose mountain weapon.

Seeing those .50's ripping up stuff in the air and on the ground makes me want to fly that bird right now, but flying it so low. im afried that AAA is going to rip up my plane like they did in real life, but hopefully my speed will avoid all the tracers.

Looking at this film makes we wonder how the .50 should look. I saw smoke tracers and it looked like they had a bigger punch than here in the game. Ah well lets just wait for v1.2 and see how it goes.

Yes the P51 was well designed guys, a purpose built War machine developed as a result of wars it was currently fighting in.
That concentrated fire power of those 50 cal machine guns could create a deadly cone of fire to be caught in.

Some body forgot to tell the Japanese that the P51 was an Apex fighter though, and the Japanese had a HONKER ! of their own the Ki84 a, b, and c models.

A very good match between these two fighter aircraft.

that guncam thingy about the Bettys is interesting. It shows them carrying Okha/Bakha suicide rockets. It should therefore be very easy to establish a date.

I'm a crappy pilot, but one hell of a shot.

One thing about propaganda films is that your not going to see all the times they did'nt destroy a target or the times they missed or the wing did'nt fall off etc. I also tend to think some of the shots are not from a Mustang...p38? Its obviously edited to show the prowess of the plane so it could be footage from anything.

Nice movie, thanks.

Did you notice in the posed shot of the flight of four Mustangs peeling away that one guy forgets to drop his tanks (or they were stuck /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif ).

Very cool stuff. I concur about the low flying. I get worried flying that low and I`m on a simulation! /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif
Those boys do get ready to pull up quick though I notice.

Can`t help feeling a bit sorry for the guys on the ground being torn up, but then again they did the same at the start didn`t they?

No room for feelings in war.

I guess.

There is only one clip of a Betty taking hits (near the beginning) and it's not carrying an Ohka. I have seen clips of Betty/Ohka combos being downed but they have all been at high alt. over the sea. This was low over the mainland.

Hi RedDeth,

Your post leaves me with little hope of receiving a coherant reply, but here goes.

The planes [particularly the bomber] were some of the most lightly armoured aircraft flying at the time. Note the way that not one single one of those planes fired upon loses any major piece of its structure.

Note how long the planes stay in the gunsights in one piece. Eventually, some are set on fire or the fuel tank explodes - again, the japanese air force wasn't known for its amazing self sealing fuel tank technology either.

The low level strafing passes on planes and ground targets don't seem to produce many hollywoodised explosions, other than one pass on a twin engined plane [1.40 min]. The explosion there seems to come from underneath the plane which - to me - implies that it was taking on fuel when it was attacked. Quite likely the targets are suffering crippling damage as the rounds go through, but it's not something I'm seeing on the video at all.

There is also no real way to determine how long the targetted planes had been shot up before they're shown going down. In many cases the first shot of the enemy plane shows it leaking fuel or on fire at the very first frame.

I've read a lot from Leadspitter and others decrying the .50 cal tracers in FB, but on seeing the footage shown in the clip, I'm surprised to find that FB has it almost dead on right. I see a glowing oval shape being spluttered out from the guns at seemingly random intervals in the film. Assuming that some of the look of it is due to over exposure on the film, I'd say FB does a damn good job of trying to replicate the tracers shown there. There's an occasional puff of smoke as the round leaves the barrel, which would be nice to see. But it's not apparent in all of the shots in the clip, and might just be an effect of humidity or similar atmospheric effects on that one shot.

The other clue you might have failed to pick up on is that the constant shots showing brave american lads flying in formation and peeling off to smite the wicked enemy imply that this is some kind of propaganda newsreel. Not a training film or a serious historical study of weapon effectiveness. It's interesting to watch, and as others have commented, the ground strafing scenes are vaguely ghoulish, but amusing enough if that's your cup of tea.

I am sure you could amuse yourself by trying to squint hard at the film and see if you can make out a tiger tank being destroyed.

clint the p51s added are of course clip editing from film of the p51ds in none hostile enviorment but they are the planes of the guncam footage, if you think a thin red line looks like the tracers in the video you need some glasses, also if you notice the huge fireballs on the ground strafes and bombers, I have alot of footage of p51d kills on ki84s and they break apart in pieces from very light hits some loose tails wings but usually center fuel tank explodes and has secondary explosions like the betties.

to me this short clip amoung the numerous other i seen show me 3 things

1st Planes even without self sealing tanks do no explode 1 foot infrong of you into nothing. and RARELY EVER HAPPENED but happens in 1 shot in fb which is total bs and should be removed fromt he game and happen very very rarely

2nd It shows the power of 6 .50 cal for example butch O'Hare downing 5 bettys in a p40 while flying alone caught on guncam. which is alot better in 1.2 beta and 1.2 rc 02. I think it wasnt .50 strenght but dm of certain a/c

3rd it shows the p51d with hvars in 1945 japan and one more thing its realtime guncamera footage not 1/4th speed
